Luka Doncic Averages 30-Point Triple-Double In November After Tying Career-High

Nov 30, 2019 1:47 PM

Luka Doncic tied a career-high with 42 points in the Dallas Mavericks' 120-113 win over the Phoenix Suns, becoming the third player in league history to average a 30-point triple-double over one calendar month.

Doncic averaged 32.4 points, 10.3 rebounds and 10.4 assists in 15 games over November.

Oscar Robertson and Russell Westbrook are the only other two players to accomplish the feat.

“I’ve learned over my many years not to take anything for granted. He’s just an exceptional player. Exceptional person. Exceptionally tough. You don’t find that combination in 20-year-old guys coming into the NBA very often," said Rick Carlisle of Doncic.

Brian Windhorst: NBA Executives Believe Mavs Could Trade For Andre Iguodala

Nov 27, 2019 2:34 AM

Brian Windhorst said that NBA executives around the league believe that the Dallas Mavericks could trade for Andre Iguodala.

"One place is shaping up as a possibility as you talk to executives out there. That is the Dallas Mavericks," said Windhorst.

Windhorst then praised the Mavs offense, before adding how Iguodala could improve them on the defensive end.

Windhorst pointed to Courtney Lee's contract as the key to any potential deal.

"Executives believe the Mavericks are a team that we should watch when it comes to the Andre Iguodala landing spot. They have a tradable contract in Courtney Lee, and extra second-round picks they could potentially use to get Memphis interested," added Windhorst.

Windhorst then echoed the league-wide sentiment that the Grizzlies will not buy Iguodala out.

Luka Doncic Following 41-Point Performance: 'For Me, It's Making The Playoffs Still'

Nov 25, 2019 12:45 AM

Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis preached patience following the Dallas Mavericks' 137-123 win over the Houston Rockets.

Doncic finished with 41 points, 6 rebounds, and 10 assists. Doncic is averaging 29.9 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 9.7 assists on the season.

"For me, it's making the playoffs still. It's a long season. It's only been one month. We didn't make the playoffs yet, so we've just got to keep going right now," said Doncic.

Porzingis echoed Doncic's statement about the long season.

"We don't want to get too ahead of ourselves. The season is long. ... It's time together, it's chemistry, making sure that everybody is on the same page. A lot of stuff happens that you guys never find out about inside the locker room between players and stuff like that. We've got to make sure all that stuff is right. Also, the relationship between coaches and players, that's got to be there. I've seen when it goes south. Right now, we're in a great place, and we want to keep it going," added Pozingis.

Rick Carlisle After Luka Doncic Triple-Double: 'He's A Very Special Player On A Special Roll'

Nov 21, 2019 2:32 AM

Luka Doncic finished with 35 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists in 25 minutes during the Dallas Mavericks' 142-94 win over the Golden State Warriors.

Doncic set a record for the least playing time in NBA history for a player with a 30-point triple-double, as well as being the first player to register more points, assists, and rebounds than an opposing team in a quarter since 2003.

"Look, he's a very special player on a special roll. There's not much else to say. This isn't a big newsflash now. This is getting to be pretty normal," said Rick Carlisle.

J.J. Barea added that he thought Doncic could average a triple-double for the season. Doncic is currently averaging 29.5 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 9.3 assists per game.

"But we were talking about if he can keep this up, and I was like, 'Yo, if somebody can keep this up, it's him.'" He plays on the ground. He's super smart. He's shooting the ball well. He's finishing really well. I see him keeping it up. It's not hard for him to do this right now. He's not forcing crazy s---. It's just coming. That's why I think he can keep this up. He's making it look easy."

Mark Cuban Says Load Management Is 'The Best Thing To Ever Happen To The League'

Nov 14, 2019 2:46 AM

Mark Cuban agreed with the data behind load management, though added that teams need to be savvier of when they rest players.

"The problem isn't load management ... I think teams have to be smarter about when to load manage. I'm all for load management. Worse than missing a player in a [regular-season] game is missing him in the playoffs," said Cuban.

The issue of load management arose again with Kawhi Leonard recently sitting out a nationally-televised Clippers game.

The Mavs also rested Kristaps Porzingis last weekend.

Cuban added that load management is a byproduct of increased investments in biometrics.

"It's all data-driven ... We spend so much money, not just on analytics for predictive reasons, but also for biometrics so we know how smart we can be. The dumb thing would be to ignore the science."

Mark Cuban Expected Kristaps Porzingis 'To Be Rustier'

Nov 12, 2019 8:32 PM

Mark Cuban believes Kristaps Porzingis is ahead of schedule in his return from a torn ACL nearly two years ago.

“He is so much further on than I expected after 20 months off,” Mark Cuban said.

“I expected him to be rustier,” Cuban said. “And add that to a new system, new teammates, new city.”

The Dallas Mavericks took on salary and traded two future first round picks for the right to re-sign Porzingis to a five-ear max contract.

Kristaps Porzingis 'Can't Blame' Rick Carlisle For Benching

Nov 12, 2019 3:55 PM

Kristaps Porzingis had just four points on 1-of-11 shooting in 20 minutes during a Dallas Mavericks loss at the Boston Celtics in which he was benched for the final nine minutes of the game after picking up his fifth foul.

"There's nights like this," Rick Carlisle said. "We're just going to flush it and move forward."

Porzingis has struggled to begin his career with the Mavericks after re-signing on a five-year, $158 million contract in July.

"Of course I want to be out there, but can't blame him," Porzingis said. "I wasn't having a great game. I'm all-in for whatever's best for the team. If the coach thinks he'd rather have me out and have someone else in that's having a better game, let's do it if we can win a basketball game. That's the most important thing, but going forward, I want to make sure I'm out there."

Porzingis is averaging 18.3 points on 40.1% shooting from the floor in nine games for the Mavs.

"Sometimes I'm not going to get the ball as much as I'd like to, and that leads to me maybe forcing some things and so on," Porzingis said. "It's a work in progress. I know Coach is trying to do the best job he can to get me the ball in the offense and utilize my skills, and I also got to do a better job of making sure I'm effective in those situations."
