Pistons Interested In Brevin Knight Again?

Jan 31, 2007 10:51 AM

Reports out of Charlotte have the Pistons showing interest in Brevin Knight.

The Pistons have long had interest in Knight, going back to last season. But there haven't been any new talks.

The 5-10 Knight makes $4.4 million this season and has a team option for $4.2 million next season. The Pistons, in the past, had talked about dealing Dale Davis ($3.5 million) and Flip Murray ($1.7 million) to the Bobcats.

The Pistons have reportedly given up on trying to deal Davis, instead focusing on Nazr Mohammed.

Artest Returns To Detroit

Jan 20, 2007 11:36 PM

Ron Artest had something special for the fans of Detroit in his first game there since the legendary 2004 incident; a Mohawk.

To prevent a repeat of the events on Nov. 19, 2004, a few arena security guards were near Sacramento's bench in addition to the usual sight of a police officer, arena and team security.

The Pistons won the game 91-74.

According to the Detroit News, the Pistons also have offered Mohammed for Minnesota's Marko Jaric, Toronto's Mo Peterson and Houston's Bonzi Wells.

Rasheed Says He Doesn't Hate Flip

Jan 20, 2007 11:55 AM

Rasheed Wallace adamantly denied an assertion from ESPN that he 'hates' head coach Flip Saunders.

"That was just some (junk) that (ESPN reporter Chris) Sheridan was trying to put out there to create some controversy," Wallace said Friday. "Just a snake in paradise saying I hate Flip, which is not true."

Wallace said he and Saunders have not agreed on every point, but that's hardly unusual.

"At points in the season, coaches and players are going to have their differences, but it's not to the point where I hate that man, or I think he's a bad person," Wallace said. "It's nothing like that."

"I am the one out there shooting badly, not Flip," Wallace said. "So I can sit up there and try to blame my shooting woes on him, or say I hate him because I am shooting bad.

"That cat (Sheridan) was just trying to start some controversy."

Sheridan, in his follow-up blog on ESPN.com, said he regretted using the word "hate" but maintained there was discord between Wallace and Saunders.

Flip Wants Name Crossed Off Gophers List Of Candidates

Jan 20, 2007 2:05 AM

Flip Saunders was back in Minnesota on Friday and, no, it wasn't to interview for the coaching position that will open at his alma mater.

He's focused on his Pistons, who were at Target Center to play the Timberwolves, the team Saunders coached for nearly 10 seasons before being fired almost two years ago.

Asked repeatedly over the past several weeks about returning to the university he played for and coaching the Gophers, Saunders has maintained that his desire is to win an NBA championship with the Pistons.

On Monday, Saunders said U. of Minnesota AD Joel Maturi, who forced coach Dan Monson to resign at the end of November, could cross Saunders' name off the list of candidates.

Rasheed Confronts ESPN Reporter

Jan 20, 2007 1:05 AM

After Thursday's practice, Rasheed Wallace sought out ESPN's Chris Sheridan due to an article that appeared on his website that morning.

Detailing Wednesday's game, Sheridan wrote: "Before we get to a dissection of (Chris) Webber's game we're going to change the subject to what appears to be a growing note of discord and disharmony -- aw, heck, let's just call it hate -- between Rasheed Wallace and coach Flip Saunders.

"At one point late in the third quarter (Wednesday) during a timeout, nearly everyone on the Pistons' bench turned and stared at Sheed as he prematurely broke from the huddle and walked to the scorers' table to await the resumption of play.

"Now Wallace has been doing this for years, but on this occasion, judging from the looks on the Pistons' faces, there was more to it. Webber even walked over and said something to Wallace, who replied with a shake of the head and the type of disgusted look you get from someone who doesn't want to be told to calm down or to make peace."

Wallace shouted expletives at Sheridan while the reporter suggested he calm down and that they speak about the matter privately.

"I don't think he hates me, and that is a pretty strong statement," said a visibly uncomfortable Saunders, who did not elaborate on the matter.

Warriors Interested In Nazr?

Jan 20, 2007 12:57 AM

The Warriors acquired four new players this week and could soon be adding additional new pieces to their roster.

There are already rumors about the Warriors trying to get center Nazr Mohammed from Detroit, which has been shopping Mohammed in a search of backcourt help.

"Timing-wise," Mullin said when asked if he would be active near the trade deadline. "I think it's good because it gives us a good month to get a look at this, where we are, to maybe re-evaluate that."

Garnett And McDyess Ejected After Scuffle

Jan 20, 2007 12:50 AM

Kevin Garnett and Antonio McDyess were ejected in the 4th quarter of Friday's double-overtime game in Minnesota.

"I know they can win without me. I don't think they can win without K.G.," said McDyess, who appeared to start the tangle by knocking Mark Madsen over with a forearm while they maneuvered for rebound position with 5:18 remaining in regulation and the score tied.

Garnett got mad and chucked the ball at McDyess, who charged at Garnett with his fist cocked. Garnett was poised to punch, too, and took a swipe at McDyess as he partially retreated, but teammates and officials stayed between the two and no blows were landed.

"Everyone in this locker room is behind Kevin Garnett 100 percent," Madsen said.

McDyess claimed it wasn't his fault and also complained that a fan yelled a racial slur at him as he left the court following the scrum.

"I never threw a punch or anything. I wanted to," McDyess said, laughing.

Garnett did not comment to reporters.

Artest : "I'm Looking Forward To Detroit"

Jan 19, 2007 3:03 PM

Carmelo Anthony was supposed to be back on the court Saturday, but a postponed game extended his suspension another two days. So now he can watch another highly anticipated return of a brawler: Ron Artest, back at Detroit.

"It's going to be crazy," Anthony said. "They might boo him (like) crazy out there. I can't wait to see that game."

Artest can't, either. Sacramento's visit to the Palace of Auburn Hills on Saturday night is his first game in Detroit since the brawl between Indiana Pacers players and Pistons fans on Nov. 19, 2004.

"I haven't played there in a long time and it's going to be a fun environment," he said earlier this week. "I'm looking forward to Detroit."
