Pistons Add Brian Adams To Coaching Staff

Dec 31, 2023 9:58 AM

The Detroit Pistons snapped their 28-game losing streak on Saturday night. If that wasn't enough, Monty Williams added a new face to his coaching staff, as well.

Detroit is hiring Brian Adams to Williams' staff. Adams was previously an assistant under Doc Rivers with both the LA Clippers and Philadelphia 76ers. The veteran NBA assistant was hired to coach in Taipei this season.

Adams had also served as head coach of the G League Clippers from 2018 to 2020. Detroit was looking to add to Williams' bench, as assistant coach Dan Burke has been away from the team for the past month dealing with a personal situation.

Detroit head coach Monty Williams said he was nearly overcome by emotion following the long-awaited victory.

“I was almost in tears and I’m just so happy for our guys," Williams said.

Pistons Remain Uninterested In Trading Bojan Bogdanovic

Dec 29, 2023 1:43 PM

The Detroit Pistons continue to be uninterested in trading Bojan Bogdanovic unless the offer is a significant overpay.

"Everything I’ve heard and continue to hear is that there are no plans to trade Bogdanovic unless Detroit gets an offer it can’t refuse," wrote James L. Edwards III at The Athletic. "The Pistons want to be good and don’t want to trade good players, even if Bogdanovic’s role is reduced to a bench scorer next season."

The Pistons acquire Bogdanovic before the 22-23 season and signed him to a two-year, $39.1 million extension shortly thereafter.

Bogdanovic cannot become a free agent until 2025 and is represented by Jason Ranne and Darren Matsubara of Wasserman.

NBA Moves Knicks-Pistons Game In February To New York

Dec 29, 2023 1:16 AM

The NBA moved the February 26 game between the Detroit Pistons and New York Knicks from Detroit to Madison Square Garden.

The reason was due to a unique scheduling issue created by the In-Season Tournament.

The original schedule required the Knicks to travel to Detroit then back to New York for back-to-back games.

The Knicks will now have a four-game homestand from February 24 to 29.

Pistons Could Trade For Veteran Players

Dec 24, 2023 11:41 AM

The Detroit Pistons made NBA history on Saturday by tying the longest single-season losing streak with a 26th consecutive defeat. Despite the consistent losing, Detroit could be looking to add veterans at the trade deadline.

The Pistons aren't looking to make any changes in the front office or on the coaching staff, but instead could be looking at the roster. Detroit owner Tom Gores promised changes, and that seems most likely to come via trade.

The Pistons are reportedly targeting veteran players to help shore up holes on the roster. The team has some movable contracts, plus cap flexibility moving forward. That, combined with a desire to stop the losses and the sense Troy Weaver needs to make a big move, has Detroit looking at adding veterans ahead of the February 8 trade deadline.

Tom Gores On Pistons Future: Change Is Coming

Dec 23, 2023 10:34 AM

Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores did an interview with select media on Friday night. The Pistons are currently mired in a 25-game losing streak, and Gores chose to answer questions about where the team is currently, and their future.

Gores said he understands that Detroit fans are disappointed and frustrated. He expressed many of the same sentiments himself. Beyond saying he shares in the frustration, Gores touted the team's young players and cap flexibility as reasons for a bright future. He also said that changes are coming for the Pistons.

"I expect change. I don’t think any narrative here at all should be that there’s no change. Change is coming. I’m just saying that in terms of Monty, Troy, all of that stuff … they will be in place, but I’m all over them. They’ll tell you that too. There’s a lot of accountability that needs to be held. There might be additions to staff and all of that stuff," Gores said. "What’s for sure is that change is coming. We’re not right, right now. We have to add and delete. We’re on it already. We will make changes. We will make them. We don’t know exactly what they’ll be yet."

Gores also seemed to take offense to fans chanting "sell the team" as the losing streak continued.

"They can say what they want, but that’s ridiculous. Other than winning — and we should win more games — we do a lot in the community. Players, the organization, we do a lot in the community. If you put aside winning, we’ve made a very big difference in the community. That means a lot to me," Gores said. "I understand that’s only going to mean a lot to people if we win, but the underworking of what’s happening and with our community, over all these years, is there. We’re doing multibillion-dollar things outside of (basketball). I understand the fans being upset, but it’s a ridiculous thought."

Cade Cunningham After Pistons Lose 25th Straight Game: 'We're Not 2-26 Bad'

Dec 22, 2023 2:01 AM

The Detroit Pistons lost their 25th straight game on Thursday night with a 119-111 defeat to the Utah Jazz.

The Pistons are now one loss away from the NBA single-season record.

"We're not 2-26 bad - no way are we that bad. I think we can turn this around. We can play a much better brand of basketball," said Cade Cunningham, who had 28 points and 10 assists.

The Jazz, who were playing on the second night of a back-to-back, were without Lauri Markkanen, Jordan Clarkson, Keyonte George and Talen Horton-Tucker.

"A team that played last night got [50] points off turnovers and rebounds. It is unbelievably hard to understand how we can get outworked in those categories," said Monty Williams after the game.

The game finished with the Pistons crowd chanting "Sell the team!" to owner Tom Gores.

The Pistons play the Nets on Saturday.
