Shabazz Muhammad is considering signing with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Muhammad was previously represented by Lakers' general manager Rob Pelinka.

The Minnesota Timberwolves haven't ruled out re-signing Muhammad, while the New Orleans Pelicans are also interested.

Lakers Fined $500,000 For Violating Anti-Tampering Rule

Aug 31, 2017 12:58 PM

The Los Angeles Lakers have been fined $500,000 by the NBA for violating the league's anti-tampering rule on Paul George.

The conduct at issue involved communications by Rob Pelinka with the agent representing Paul George that constituted a prohibited expression of interest in the player while he was under contract.  The penalty reflected a previous warning issued by the NBA to the Lakers regarding tampering, following comments made by Lakers President of Basketball Operations Earvin Johnson about Paul George during an April 20 national television appearance.

The investigation did not reveal evidence of an agreement or understanding that the Lakers would sign or acquire Mr. George.

The NBA’s anti-tampering rule prohibits teams from interfering with other teams’ contractual relationships with NBA players, including by publicly expressing interest in a player who is currently under contract with another team or informing the agent of another team’s player of interest by one’s own team in that player.

Lamar Odom: 2011 Trade From Lakers 'Basically Ended My Career, Purpose'

Aug 28, 2017 7:07 PM

Lamar Odom is still haunted by the 2011 offseason when the Los Angeles Lakers first traded him to the New Orleans Pelicans and then the Dallas Mavericks after the Chris Paul was rescinded.

“That trade from the Lakers basically ended my career and purpose,” Odom told The Vertical. “I was never really myself ever again. Being in L.A., the structure, the people I knew, it hurt leaving. I had great memories with the Lakers, with Kobe (Bryant) and Pau (Gasol). That was a special time in my life.

“I got traded the season after we lost to Dallas in the playoffs, and I had won Sixth Man of the Year for the team. To trade me after winning Sixth Man of the Year … what else do I got to do? Why?

“I think about it all the time, about how much I had left in the tank. I had issues going on. But barring injury, could I play in the NBA today? I could play. I should still be playing.”

Executives Expect LeBron James To Leave Cavs In 2018

Aug 25, 2017 1:14 PM

LeBron James can become a free agent in 2018 and he's widely expected by executives around the NBA to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers.

"He's out," a Western Conference scout says.

"Foregone conclusion," one Eastern Conference general manager said.

James has been most strongly linked to the Los Angeles Lakers. The top three reasons why James would want to join the Lakers are to further cement his post-playing career in TV and film production, leading three different franchises to a title and to create a potential path to an ownership stake with the Lakers.

James has relinquished his goal of matching Michael Jordan's three championship rings, according to a source.

"That was once his obsession," the source said. "But even if LeBron thinks he has five good years left, he's not thinking he's going to beat Golden State four out of the next five years. I don't think he's making it about that anymore. When he said, 'I don't have anything left to prove' during the Finals, that's where that came from."

NBA Exec: Tampering Rules Archaic, Difficult To Enforce

Aug 25, 2017 11:06 AM

The Indiana Pacers have filed tampering charges against the Los Angeles Lakers on how they handled the Paul George situation.

Tampering claims are rarely filed and penalties are even rarer. The general consensus is tampering is common but the league is virtually powerless to stop it.

“My sense is everyone agrees that the current situation is silly,” one league executive said. “The rules are archaic and both difficult to enforce, and largely unenforced even when they aren’t as difficult to enforce.”

The risk of tampering by an actual executive is far greater than the reward.

“If a team GM were to blatantly get involved [in tampering], the downside could be enough to prevent them from working again,” one general manager said. “While I’m sure that may not stop everyone, it sure will be thought about, especially with all the risk and the likelihood of something coming out at some point.”

The most obvious example of Magic Johnson potentially tampering with George was an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

“No, we can say, ‘Hi,’ because we know each other,” Johnson said, flashing his trademark smile. “I just can’t say, ‘Hey, we want you to come to the Lakers,’ even though I’m going to be wink-winking. You know what that means, right?”

Pacers File Tampering Charges Against Lakers On Paul George

Aug 20, 2017 3:18 PM

The Indiana Pacers have filed tampering charges against the Los Angeles Lakers over Paul George. The Pacers traded George to the Oklahoma City Thunder on June 30th.

The NBA is investigating the charges but no wrongdoing has been found to date.

"At the request of the Indiana Pacers, the NBA opened an investigation into alleged tampering by the Los Angeles Lakers. The independent investigation is being conducted by the law firm Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz. The Lakers have been cooperative and, at this point, no findings have been made. We have asked both teams to refrain from commenting while the investigation is ongoing.

D'Angelo Russell 'Excited For New Opportunity To Start Over' With Nets

Aug 18, 2017 10:28 PM

D'Angelo Russell was asked whether he believes he was treated fairly by the Los Angeles Lakers.

“It’s business, man," said Russell. "That’s how I got to look at it. A lot of things happen in this league and you don’t agree with it or however you may feel about it and at the end of the day realize it’s business.”

Russell was asked for his reaction to the trade to the Brooklyn Nets.

“I was excited. I was excited to get a new opportunity to start over, but it definitely caught me off guard. You see guys get traded you never think it would have to be you until it does. New step for me.”

Lonzo Ball Picks LeBron James Over Kobe Bryant

Aug 11, 2017 11:08 PM

Lonzo Ball was asked to pick between LeBron James and Kobe Bryant. The question came following Michael Jordan's comments in saying Bryant has the edge over James.

"My favorite player was LeBron growing up," said Ball. "But he does have a point. Championships do mean a lot. But, uhh, it's tough. I'm a Laker. I want to go with Kobe. But I've been saying LeBron for my whole life, so I'ma go with LeBron."

The question is a difficult one for Ball to answer as Bryant is a legendary member of the Los Angeles Lakers, while the team expects to pursue James next summer.

Ball was the second overall pick in the June draft.
