Dwight Howard: I Never Recovered From Dwightmare Period

Sep 19, 2017 4:54 PM

Dwight Howard's future with the Orlando Magic and long dragged out exit dominated the NBA landscape in 2012 and he feels like the period has continued to plague his career five years later.  Lee Jenkins writes that "Howard can't stop reliving" some of the details of his Dwightmare period.

“In a lot of ways, I feel like I never recovered,” said Howard.

Howard played through a torn labrum with the Los Angeles Lakers in an effort to regain his reputation around the NBA.

“I lost confidence in who I am as a player,” he recalls. “I’d hear people say, ‘You should play more like Shaq,’ so I tried to bully guys. But that didn’t work because I’m not as big as Shaq. Then I’d hear people say, ‘You smile too much, you should be more like Kobe,’ so I tried to put on a mean face and play mad. But I wound up getting all these stupid techs and flagrant fouls.”

Vecsey: LeBron James 'Definitively' Leaving Cavaliers For Lakers In 2018

Sep 16, 2017 1:18 PM

LeBron James will be a free agent in 2018 and speculation has been increasing that he will leave the Cleveland Cavaliers to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers.

"I’m publicly terminating the pandemic of speculation surrounding LeBron James’ playing plans past this season," wrote Vecsey. "For months, many in the media declared or composed presumption the Lakers would be the beneficiaries of his talents when he became a free agent July 1, 2018. I’m eradicating all conjecture and uncertainty! I’m comfortable now in stating unequivocally, LeBron will leave the Cavaliers a second time and join the Lakers, and return the team to LA Lore status."

The Lakers are preserving their cap space and looking to create more for 2018 in order to sign two max contract players.

James left the Cavaliers initially in 2010 and then returned in 2014.

James is spending more time in Los Angeles lately and was seen with his wife this past week looking at high schools for their two sons.

Magic Johnson Asks Lakers To Take Tampering Fine Out Of His Salary

Sep 5, 2017 3:54 PM

Magic Johnson has asked Jeanie Buss for the Los Angeles Lakers to take their tampering fine out of his salary.

“We can’t say a lot but we will correct the situation,” Johnson said Monday. “It’s under my watch. I apologize to Jeanie, and that was the main thing. I told her she could take it out of my salary because I don’t want the Lakers to be paying that fine. … I don’t want her spending $500,000, because she didn’t do anything. That’s on me.”

Johnson joked on Jimmy Kimmel's late night about Paul George, which led to a warning from the NBA. Rob Pelinka subsequently gave an illegal expression of interest to George's agent.

“This is just on a late-night show being funny,” Johnson said after touring a donation facility he helped organize with West Angeles Church to benefit victims of Tropical Storm Harvey. “But now I know I can’t do that. We’re OK. I haven’t thought twice about it. We made a mistake. … It’s under my watch. I’m gonna make sure it doesn’t happen anymore.”
