Russell Westbrook Says Darius Bazley Steal And Dunk 'Things You Don't Do'

Oct 28, 2021 9:06 AM

The Los Angeles Lakers had a complete collapse against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night. For the first time in franchise history, the Lakers lost a game after holding a lead of 25 points or greater. The frustration of the blown lead boiled over at the end of the game.

With the game in hand, Thunder forward Darius Bazley stole an inbounds pass with three seconds to play. After Bazley dunked the ball, Lakers guard Russell Westbrook made it clear he didn't like Bazley showing up the Lakers. Westbrook received a second technical foul and was ejected for going after Bazley following the play.

Postgame, Westbrook said, “It is what it is. I don’t think I should have gotten the first tech … If the last one was a tech, that’s cool. But, just how I play the game — I’m old school. When shit like that happens, I don’t let it slide. I’ll take it on the chin and move on.”

The former Thunder guard added, “But in the game of basketball, there’s just certain things you don’t do. Like in baseball, you don’t flip the bat. There’s certain things you just don’t do in sports. Game’s already over. And I didn’t like it, simple as that.”

Prior to the ejection, Westbrook had put up a triple-double, but also turned the ball over 10 times.

Anthony Davis Says Knee Injury 'A Little Stinger'

Oct 27, 2021 9:03 AM

Anthony Davis was seen limping at the end of regulation during the Los Angeles Lakers game at the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday. Davis stayed in and scored four points and grabbed four rebounds, while playing the entire overtime in the Lakers victory.

Following the game, Davis termed his knee injury "a little stinger". Davis said he would see how he felt when he woke up on Wednesday. Lakers head coach Frank Vogel said that Davis banged knees with a Spurs player with about a minute to go in the fourth quarter. Vogel confirmed the Lakers would see how Davis was feeling before deciding his status for Thursday's game at the Dallas Mavericks.

Davis also suffered a scary moment early in the game. He attempted to dunk on Jakob Poeltl and his arm contorted at an odd angle, as Poeltl blocked the shot. Davis grabbed at his right shoulder, but ultimately stayed in the game.

The Lakers played in San Antonio without LeBron James, who sat out due to a sore right ankle. James was injured when Desmond Bane fell into his leg on Sunday night. Vogel said Los Angeles is taking a "marathon approach" with their star forward.

LeBron James Out With Ankle Injury As Lakers Take 'Marathon Approach'

Oct 26, 2021 8:49 PM

The Los Angeles Lakers kept LeBron James out of Tuesday's game against the San Antonio Spurs due to a sore right ankle.

Frank Vogel, when asked about James' injury, said the team is taking "a marathon approach" with him.

James suffered the injury in Sunday's win against the Memphis Grizzlies when Desmond Bane fell into James' right leg after scoring a layup.

James missed 26 games last season with a high right ankle sprain, but Vogel said the Lakers star did not aggravate that injury.

"Same ankle. Different spot. Different injury," Vogel said.

Carmelo Anthony Moves Into 9th Place On All-Time Scoring List

Oct 25, 2021 8:39 AM

In the Los Angles Lakers victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday, Carmelo Anthony scored 28 points. That was enough to vault Anthony past Moses Malone and into ninth-place on the NBA's all-time scoring leaders list.

Anthony passed Malone with a three-pointer late in the third quarter. Anthony said postgame that his longevity is something he's proudest of his career.

"I'm still here doing it," Anthony said. "I think that's what I'm honestly excited about. I'm here in year 19 still doing what I'm able to do. Still passionate about the game. Still passionate about coming to work every day and getting better. And what a better night to reach ninth than with a win, the way that we needed a win tonight."

Anthony now has 27,423 career points. Former Lakers great Shaquille O'Neal is in eighth-place with 28,596 points.

Dwight Howard: Beef With Anthony Davis Squashed Immediately

Oct 23, 2021 9:09 AM

During the Los Angeles Lakers loss to the Phoenix Suns on Friday night, cameras caught Anthony Davis and Dwight Howard getting into an altercation on the sideline. Davis was yelling at Howard as both walked towards the bench, while Howard seemingly ignored him. Davis then approached Howard when he sat down. As the two continued to argue, Howard stood up and pushed Davis away. Teammates and coaches then immediately separated the two players.

Following the game, Howard said, "We squashed that then and there. We just had a disagreement about something on the floor."

Multiple times throughout the loss to the Suns, Lakers players could be seen pointing at each other following defensive breakdowns. As they integrate several new players, Los Angeles' defense has not been up to par through two games.

Dwight Howard Has Most All-NBA Selections Of Any Player Left Off 75th Anniversary Team

Oct 22, 2021 10:45 AM

Dwight Howard was one of the more notable omissions from the NBA's 75th Anniversary Team. Howard has eight All-NBA selections, which is more than any other player left off the list.

Howard has as many All-NBA selections as Dave DeBusschere, Kevin McHale, Earl Monroe, Dennis Rodman, Nate Thurmond, Wes Unseld, Lenny Wilkens, and James Worthy combined.

The first half of Howard's career was one of the best for a big man in NBA history, with five straight All-NBA selections and three straight Defensive Player of the Year awards. Howard also finished second in MVP voting in 2011.
