Keeping Zaza In Milwaukee Now Becomes Key

Jul 26, 2005 2:30 PM

Without a doubt, Michael Redd was the most important signing for the team to win right now. Bobby Simmons also gives the Bucks a much better chance to get back to the playoffs next season. That being said, at a time where the Bucks are making a handful of moves, we cannot forget about the impact Zaza Pachulia has had and could have if he remains a Buck.

The 6?11?, 265 pound forward/center from the Republic of Georgia has tremendous upside potential. I know I sound like Hubie Brown during a NBA Draft, but it?s true. Zaza averaged around six points and five rebounds in a little less than 19 minutes per game. He is only 21 years old! He doubled his numbers from his rookie season in about seven more minutes a game. Imagine what he could do with more minutes!

That is where the problem starts and ends for Zaza and the Bucks. Zaza claims it isn?t about the money that it is about wanting more playing time. Can we believe him? His girlfriend was found shoplifting early this year, so the money definitely wouldn?t hurt them!

Bucks To Sign Charlie Bell

Jul 25, 2005 10:37 AM

Mark Bartelstein, the agent for free-agent guard Charlie Bell, said Bell has every intention of signing with the Bucks. Bell, a former Michigan State standout, is coming off an outstanding season for Leche Rio Breogn in Spain. Bell, a 6-2 combo guard, averaged 27 points and shot 44 percent from 3-point range.

DraftExpress reported several weeks ago that Bell would be coming back from Europe and that the Bucks would sign him.

Pachulia Concerned About Playing Time If He Returns To Bucks

Jul 25, 2005 9:16 AM

Bucks restricted free agent bigman Zaza Pachulia wants to get playing time from the team that he signs a new deal with.

Unfortunately, if he re-signs with Milwaukee or they match an offer he gets from another team, Pachulia is very concerned he will not get playtime time behind forward Joe Smith and centers Andrew Bogut and Dan Gadzuric.

"There's no question playing time is a big concern for Zaza and I have expressed that to Larry Harris,'' said Fleisher, referring to the Bucks general manager. "He wants to keep progressing in his career. He doesn't want to take a step back.''

"Zaza loved being in Milwaukee,'' Fleisher said. "He liked the people on the team and in the organization. But he also wants to keep progressing as a player.'''

Fleisher told Gery Woelfel that the Bucks and a team which he would not reveal have offered Pachulia a contract.

Bucks' Andrew Bogut Ejected From Game

Jul 18, 2005 8:47 PM

Milwaukee Bucks center Andrew Bogut, the No. 1 pick in this year's NBA draft, was ejected from a summer league game on Monday after tangling with Indiana Pacers center John Edwards.

Edwards, who was also ejected, got caught up with Bogut underneath the basket and inadvertently shoved him to the ground as he headed back up court.

Bogut bounced off the floor and went after Edwards, but the two were separated by teammates before they made any contact.

After deliberating for a few minutes, the officials surprisingly decided to eject both players rather than issue technical fouls, eliciting heavy complaints from both coaching staffs.

"It was a pretty quick hook," Bogut said after the game. "I needed a rest anyway."

Edwards said the initial contact was not intentional.

"I don't think it was merited," he said of the ejection.

Bucks' Bogut Shoots From The Lip

Jul 18, 2005 6:20 AM

For all the prestige that goes with being the top pick in the NBA draft, Milwaukee center Andrew Bogut might be best known for his, gasp, honesty.

Bogut has been criticized for his critical opinions of fellow Australian basketball players, including Luc Longley, but he continues to speak his mind.

In today's world, where seemingly all athletes strive for political correctness, Bogut is an exception.

"I just think it's important to be yourself," said Bogut. "If I don't look good by the things I say, that's something I'm going to live with. I'm still going to say things people aren't going to like, just like everybody."

The spotlight has magnified his recent comments to reporters on a range of topics:

On Longley, who won three championships with Chicago in the 1990s on teams carried by Michael Jordan: "I've had a better collegiate career than anyone else from Australia that came over here. I'm not as slow as Luc Longley. I'm more athletic. I can shoot better. I'm more competitive. So I think it's not even fair to bring that name up," Bogut told the AP.

On the NBA lifestyle of traveling entourages: "I'll probably have some people come in that I haven't seen for 20 years, and I'm going to tell them straight out, I don't want nothing to do with you. I'm not a posse guy. I'm not going to have a bunch of guys rolling around with me, playing PlayStation and paying them money. I don't see the point in that."

Bogut stands by his comments, though he said the reference to Longley was taken out of context.

"I basically said there's no comparison," Bogut clarified this weekend after one of his summer league games. "We're two different players. I'm more of a four-five. He's a pure five. That got turned into, 'Andrew Bogut (dumps) all over Luc Longley.' That's just how it is. Australian media is some of the worst media in the world, I think."

Bucks Expect To Sign Charlie Bell

Jul 12, 2005 4:43 AM

The Bucks are expected to sign former Michigan State guard Charlie Bell, who played in Spain last year, when the mortatorium is lifted on July 22.

"Nothing is finalized yet, but the plan is for Charlie to join the Bucks,'' said Mark Bartelstein, Bell's agent. "We are working toward an agreement.''

The deal is believed to be for two years.

Even with Bell's signing, Antonio Daniels is rumored to be interested in signing with the Bucks because of his close relationship with guard Michael Redd.

Finally, new head coach Terry Stotts is expected to fill two spots on his coaching staff and one of them is believed to be filled by  Atlanta Hawks pro personal director Mike McNeive.

Agent: Gadzuric Will Re-Sign With Milwaukee

Jul 12, 2005 2:58 AM

The agent for Milwaukee Bucks center Dan Gadzuric said Monday that Gadzuric intends to resign with the Bucks later this month.

The deal is a six-year pact worth $36 million.

"We are committed to signing with the Bucks when the moratorium [on signing contracts] is lifted," said Bob Myers, Gadzuric's agent with SFX.

Free agents cannot officially sign contracts until July 22, which the league office has scheduled as the first day the NBA's new labor agreement takes effect.
