Bucks Officially Deal Magloire To Portland

Jul 31, 2006 3:45 PM

Jamaal Magliore is now officially the newest member of the Portland Trail Blazers.

The Blazers on Monday acquired Magloire from the Milwaukee Bucks for point guard Steve Blake, forward Brian Skinner and 7-foot-3 center Ha Seung-Jin.

Magloire, 28, has one year left on his contract worth $8.3 million and was deemed expendable when the Bucks decided to move 7-footer Andrew Bogut to center. Last October, Milwaukee acquired Magloire from the New Orleans Hornets and used Bogut, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2005 draft, at power forward.

In Portland, the 6-11 Magloire will likely split time in the middle with Joel Przybilla, who was recently re-signed to a five-year contract.

"Jamaal is a talented, big body that will give us options in our frontcourt and help us be more competitive against the Western Conference big men," Trail Blazers coach Nate McMillan said. "He will be a strong addition to our ballclub and hopefully help us win more games."

"We are very excited to bring someone of Jamaal's stature to our organization," Trail Blazers president Steve Patterson said. "He made the All-Star team just two short years ago and was a big part of Milwaukee gaining a playoff spot in the East this past season. He's an excellent rebounder who gives up depth and talent up front, and you can never have too many quality bigs in the NBA."

The Bucks were shopping for a point guard after trading starter T.J. Ford to Toronto for forward Charlie Villanueva earlier in the month. Blake would likely serve as a backup to Mo Williams and allow Charlie Bell to play more time at shooting guard behind All-Star Michael Redd.

"In Steve Blake, we added a talented point guard who had one of the best assist-to-turnover ratios in the league last season," Bucks general manager Larry Harris said. "Brian was a solid contributor to our team two years ago and, along with Ha Seung-Jin, will give us added size up front."

Bucks And Blazers Reach Agreement

Jul 29, 2006 7:37 PM

The Bucks have verbally agreed to deal the veteran center to the Portland Trail Blazers for guard Steve Blake, forward Brian Skinner and center Ha Seung-Jin, according to Gery Woelfel of the Journal Times.

The deal won't be announced until all players pass physicals and the trade is officially approved by the league offices.

The trade has been discussed for several weeks because Portland was reluctant to give up Blake, who started 57 games for them last season, his first in Portland.

Magloire Trade Talks Ongoing

Jul 26, 2006 9:49 AM

Larry Harris told the Journal Sentinel that discussions were continuing about a possible trade involving Jamaal Magloire.

"There are still a number of teams we're talking to," Harris said. "We have contacted two or three teams more than once at this point.

"I don't know that there's a resolution, but there are certainly more conversations going on over the last week. Now players are getting signed, free agency is dwindling down and everybody is looking at their rosters.

"As I look at it, the 1 (point guard), 3 (small forward) and 5 (center) are the positions where we can add some depth. Hopefully we can accomplish that with Magloire, if we do trade him

Harris Having Difficulty Trying To Trade Magloire

Jul 19, 2006 9:04 AM

Larry Harris is finding the market for Jamaal Magloire to be rather soft, as he said on Tuesday that no deals were imminent involving veteran the center.

"I've told Jamaal, 'I'm not going to give you away,' " Harris said. "Not a guy that's 10 (points) and 10 (rebounds) and is a starting center in the NBA. We're actively trying to do some things that make sense for him and for us.

"The future of our franchise is the man to my right (Villanueva) and Andrew Bogut. It's just the way it's going to be. But Jamaal still can be an integral part of what we're going to do."

Charlie Villanueva was introduced as a member of the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday.

"When I got the phone call, that was a little bit shocking, to be honest with you," Villanueva said of learning he had been traded after one stellar season in Toronto. "Then I sat back and thought, we have a good group of guys here, and to play alongside a (2005 draft) classmate in Andrew Bogut will be great.

"I think I fit pretty nicely. They expect a lot from me, and I'm ready to step up to the challenge."

Bucks Sign Point Guard Lynn Greer

Jul 18, 2006 10:15 PM

The Milwaukee Bucks signed point guard Lynn Greer to a two-year contract on Tuesday, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel is reporting.

The 26-year-old Greer has spent the past four seasons in Europe, and he averaged 22.6 points, 3.3 assists and 2.2 rebounds in 40 games for Carpisa Napoli of the Italian League last season. He shot 48.3% from the field and 91.3% from the free-throw line.

"I've been in four different countries in four years," Greer said after signing his deal at the Bucks training facility in St. Francis late Tuesday afternoon. "I just had a great experience over there, learning to play a different style of basketball. It was very beneficial to me."

Greer, a Philadelphia native, played four years under John Chaney at Temple before moving on to Europe. He also played in Greece, Poland and Russia.

"He (Chaney) was the first person I called when I found out I was coming here, because that's what he means to me," Greer said. "He has coached a lot of great players, some that are still in the league now. He's a legendary guy."

Magliore Trade Talk Still Strong

Jul 12, 2006 2:59 AM

Teams can now officially make trades and sign players, and one player who constantly is named in rumors and is a good chance to be dealt in the near future is the Bucks' Jamaal Magliore.

The Bucks have openly acknowledged they are shopping Magloire, who is due to make $8.3 million in the final year of his contract during the 2006-'07 season.  According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, after acquiring forward Charlie Villaneuva for guard T.J. Ford earlier this month, the Bucks are looking to move the former All-Star for a guard.

"Now I look with Jamaal Magloire, and it takes on a different aura," GM Larry Harris said. "We really needed a power forward, and now that we feel we've got that position covered, we'll take a look at Jamaal and see if there's anything that makes sense with him and some point guards or whatever."

"If not, we'll look in free agency."
