The Chicago Bulls have requested the NBA remove the contract of Omer Asik from their salary sheet due to career-ending injury/illness.

If approved, the Bulls would create an additional $3 million in cap space. Asik had $3 million in guaranteed money for 19-20.

Jim Boylen Discussing Three-Year Contract Extension With Bulls

Apr 12, 2019 8:33 AM

Jim Boylen is reportedly discussing a 3-year contract extension with the Chicago Bulls.

John Paxson said he believes Boylen is the right coach to lead the Bulls in the future despite the rocky beginning.

"What I've seen is his ability to show these guys that he genuinely cares about them. That his goal is to get them better as individuals. I'm the first to admit that first week was like dynamite blowing up. It was a rocky week. What I've seen since then is a guy that embraces this challenge. He embraces individuals he's coaching. He really does view himself as a teacher, a guy that wants to connect with the players, and sometimes you have to be demanding and hard," said Paxson.

Paxson added that his goal for the Bulls next season is to compete for a playoff position.

Lauri Markkanen Cleared To Resume Full Basketball Related Activities

Apr 11, 2019 1:40 PM

Lauri Markkanen has been cleared to resume full basketball related activities after completing thorough examinations from cardiologists.

Markkanen initially experienced extreme fatigue and an accelerated heart rate during a game in Toronto on March 26. After an examination by Raptors team physicians at halftime of that game, the determination was made to hold Markkanen out of basketball activities pending further testing. Following preliminary testing in Toronto immediately after the game, Markkanen returned to Chicago the next day where he was examined by Dr. Richard Trohman, Co-director of Cardiology and Director of Electrophysiology, at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. In addition, Markkanen was also examined by Dr. Hugh Calkins, Director of Electrophysiology at Johns Hopkins University. After further testing, both physicians determined the cause of Markkanen’s symptoms to be primarily related to a combination of dehydration and nutrient deficiency. Following a standard period of postseason recovery, Markkanen will initiate his offseason training program in Finland before returning mid-summer to Chicago to train with Bulls staff.

Bulls Nearly Traded Jabari Parker To Lakers For Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Michael Beasley

Apr 9, 2019 11:16 AM

The Los Angeles Lakers had a tentative deal in place with the Chicago Bulls on the weekend of January 25th for Jabari Parker.

The Lakers were set to trade Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Michael Beasley in the deal for Parker.

But Caldwell-Pope had to approve any trade and had not yet signed off on the deal. The deal remained in limbo until January 28th when Davis requested a trade from the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Bulls realized the Lakers would not move forward with any trades until the Davis situation played itself and moved on. Chicago eventually traded Parker and Bobby Portis to the Washington Wizards for Otto Porter Jr.
