Cavs Interested In Villanueva, Rasheed, McDyess

Jun 29, 2009 7:58 PM

According to sources, Charlie Villanueva will be one of Cleveland's free-agent targets when teams are allowed to speak with them Wednesday.

The Cavs have their mid-level exception, expected to be around $5.6 million to $5.8 million, to offer in the first year of a contract. Villanueva's qualifying offer would have been $4.6 million. His salary last season was $3.4 million. Several teams with more salary cap space, such as the Detroit Pistons and Oklahoma City Thunder, might have interest in Villanueva.

Cleveland is also expected to pursue Rasheed Wallace and Antonio McDyess.

Howard: Cavs Got Shaq To Try And Stop Me

Jun 25, 2009 2:30 PM

Dwight Howard was flattered by the Cavaliers acquisition of Shaquille O'Neal.

"Looks like Cleveland just traded for big Shaq in order to try and stop me next season," wrote Howard.  "It?s good to see that the Magic are on the minds of some other teams now instead of it being the other way around. Maybe now after getting to the Finals the little ol? Magic won?t be overlooked as much anymore.

"Those kinds of trades like the one Cleveland made just lets us know that we have to be better next season. Those teams are gunning for us and trying to get better, so we?ve got to do the same thing."

Cleveland and New Orleans had discussions, but talks died when Phoenix agreed to send O'Neal to the Eastern Conference for a package that includes Sasha Pavlovic and Ben Wallace.

The Cavaliers aren't done dealing, according to sources. They want to re-sign Anderson Varejao and obtain an athletic wing player.
