The Cleveland Cavaliers will not buyout J.R. Smith before the deadline as they have every intention of attempting to trade him in June.

Smith signed a four-year, $57 million contract with the Cavaliers in 2016 with just $3.8 million of his $15.6 million salary for 19-20 guaranteed.

Because the Cavaliers are well over the luxury tax line, there is little incentive to agree to a buyout with Smith at a reduced figure.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed to sign Nik Stauskas to a contract for the remainder of the season.

The Cavaliers had an open roster spot following the deadline.

Stauskas was traded by the Blazers to the Cavaliers then to Rockets and then to the Pacers last week before he was waived.

The Houston Rockets have agreed to acquire Iman Shumpert in a three-team trade with the Sacramento Kings and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Sacramento will acquire Alec Burks as part of the deal.

The Cavaliers will receive the contract of Brandon Knight, Marquese Chriss and a lottery protected first round pick in 2019.

The Houston Rockets are discussing a deal to acquire Alec Burks from the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Rockets would send Brandon Knight and their 2019 1st-round pick over to Cleveland.

The Cavs acquired Burks and two 2nd-round picks from the Jazz for Kyle Korver last November. 

“I don’t believe in rumors until something happens. If nothing happens then I’m not going nowhere. If something happens, it happens. I enjoy my time here and hopefully it keeps going," said Burks following a loss to the Celtics.

The Portland Trail Blazers have acquired Rodney Hood for Nik Stauskas, Wade Baldwin and two future second round picks.

Hood had the ability to veto trade after signing the one-year qualifying offer with the Cavaliers.

The Cavaliers acquired Hood from the Utah Jazz before the 2018 trade deadline.
