Michael Curry to meet with Denver

Aug 31, 2004 4:07 AM

Free-agent small forward Michael Curry will meet with the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday.  He played for the Toronto Raptor last season, averaging 2.9 points per game.

It has come down to either Jon Barry or Curry for the Nuggets final roster spot.  After joking that Curry is an "old man, like me," Barry added, "He gets himself ready. He's a consummate pro. A good guy to have in the locker room."

Curry may talk to another few teams, but his agent Guy Zucker did not disclose who might be interested in his client.

Nuggets Are Very Close to Signing Barry

Aug 23, 2004 2:04 AM

Barry has said he is close to re-signing for with Denver even though his family would remain in Atlanta.

"That part really stinks," he said. "You're away from your family for seven months."

Barry will be entering his 13th NBA season.  To which he commented.  "Not bad for a slow white guy.  I've fooled 'em for this long."

White Wants to Stay in Denver

Aug 17, 2004 3:16 PM

Free agent Rodney White would love to remain a Nugget, but he also wants to play as well.  "I just really want an opportunity," White said. "I played 13 minutes a game last year. I would like to play some more minutes.

To remain a Nugget White would probably have to take a temporary pay cut as Denver is already $2.3-million under the salary cap.  They also declined to pick up White?s $2.5-million dollar option for next season.

"When I get the playing time, hopefully 2.5 won't even be what we'll be talking about. I just want the best situation right now. I'm not looking for the max dollars."

Given this fact White is still looking forward to the opportunity to remain with the Nuggets.  "I would like to end up back in Denver," White said. "Denver has a chance to go very far, and I would love to be part of that if I'm utilized the right way."

Miami and New Orleans are the two other teams expressing interest in White.

Paxson Working to Resolve Mutombo Matter

Aug 13, 2004 9:36 AM

Bulls GM John Paxson is still hopeful that he can meet Dikembe Mutombo's request to play for a playoff contender.

Dikembe was acquired in a six-player trade with New York last week.  Mutombo and his agent David Falk let it be known that he wishes to play elsewhere, but he did not threaten to retire.

"I have been in contact with a few teams, but nothing is definite at all," Paxson said. "There's no pressure for us to move Dikembe, and if he stays, he can be a valuable player here. Like I've said before, I won't make a trade just to make a trade. It has to be beneficial to us."

Paxson is having discussions with the Rockets and Nuggets, respectively, about shooting guards Eric Piatkowski and Jon Barry.

Barry A Hot Commodity

Aug 12, 2004 1:25 PM

No, it isn?t Brent, this time it is his older brother Jon.  Four teams are supposedly in the hunt for the veteran shooter with the Denver Nuggets being the frontrunners.  The Sonics, Clippers, and Hawks are also said to be in the mix.

Denver has the most money to spend, however Barry currently lives in Atlanta and his son has just started school there.  He has been quoted as saying his family would stay in Atlanta no matter where he plays.

It is still anybody?s guess where the 35-year-old journeyman will end up.

Kiki Seeks Swingman

The Denver Nuggets, who have been very active this offseason, remain active, as GM Kiki Vandeweghe is seeking a swingman.  Options being discussed include resigning Jon Barry, as well as sending forward Nikoloz Tskitishvili to the Phoenix Suns for either Joe Johnson or Casey Jacobson, who are now expendable shooting guards with the signing of Quentin Richardson.
