Michael Malone, Nuggets Agree To Contract Extension

Nov 13, 2023 11:01 AM

Michael Malone and the Denver Nuggets have agreed to a contract extension that will make him one of the NBA's highest paid coaches.

Malone helped guide the Nuggets to their first championship in franchise history last June.

The Nuggets hired Malone as head coach in 2015 after his brief stint with the Sacramento Kings.

Gregg Popovich, Erik Spoelstra, Steve Kerr, Rick Carlisle, Nick Nurse, Tyrone Lue and Frank Vogel are the other current head coaches who have won a championship as head coach.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope Has Lofty Defensive Goals This Season

Nov 10, 2023 8:49 AM

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is one of the NBA's best perimeter defenders. Despite that, he's never been recognized with a postseason award for his defensive ability. Caldwell-Pope wants to change that this season.

“I got one goal, man, either Defensive Player of the Year or first-team. I’m going to continue to push that envelope," Caldwell-Pope said after his Denver Nuggets defeated the Golden State Warriors.

Caldwell-Pope helped harass Stephen Curry into 6-of-17 shooting in the Nuggets win. That was a throwback to when Caldwell-Pope first burst on the scene as a defensive player.

In a game in his second season, Caldwell-Pope's Pistons were huge underdogs to the Warriors in 2015. In a seven-point loss, Caldwell-Pope helped hold Curry to just nine points on 4-of-15 shooting. That game put him on the map as one of the NBA's best perimeter defenders.

Jamal Murray Out 3-4 Weeks With Right Hamstring Strain

Nov 8, 2023 10:24 PM

Jamal Murray will likely be out for the remainder of November due to a right hamstring strain.

Murray was hurt in a victory by the Denver Nuggets over the Chicago Bulls on Saturday night. Murray also dealt with a similar injury in the preseason.

"This will be something that will be longer than we would like," Malone said this week. "You have to have the big picture in mind and make sure we're putting him in position to get healthy before he comes back."

Murray didn't sign a contract extension with the Nuggets in the offseason and could become supermax eligible if he makes an All-NBA team. Murray has yet to make an All-Star team or All-NBA team in his career, but he has established himself as one of the league's best guards during the 2020 and 2023 playoffs.

Nikola Jokic Drank Three Liters Of Coke Per Day Before Entering NBA

Nov 2, 2023 2:38 PM

After Nikola Jokic was drafted by the Denver Nuggets in the 2014 NBA draft, he spent a month at P3 Applied Sports Science in Santa Barbara.

Jokic recorded the lowest standing vertical leap of any NBA player they had ever assessed. Jokic's 17 inch leap remains the lowest with over 1,000 players in their database.

Jokic was asked if he wanted to reserve any court time while at P3 to work on his basketball game.

"No, no," Jokic replied. "No basketball. Basketball is good."

Jokic then patted his stomach.

"This" -- his body -- "not so good," Jokic responded.

No player at P3 before or since had not picked up a basketball during their time at their facility.

Jokic overhauled his diet and eliminated a three-liters-a-day Coca-Cola habit.
