Pacers Deny Interest In NBA Loan

Feb 27, 2009 8:22 AM

The Pacers claim that they aren't one of 12 teams interested in borrowing money from the NBA.

The NBA has set up $200 million to distribute to interested teams, meaning that between $13 million and $20 million will be available to each of the dozen teams involved.

"We are not involved in it at all," Pacers co-owner Herb Simon said. "It has nothing to do with us."

Forbes magazine reported the Pacers lost $6 million last year, though Simon has said it was much more.

O'Brien, Jack Disagree After Pacers' Loss

Feb 24, 2009 7:01 PM

The Pacers coughed up a very winnable game in the final seconds against the Knicks on Monday night, and there are varying opinions as to who's at fault.

With the game tied 119-119, center Jeff Foster called a timeout after failing to get the ball in bounds. He had the same issue on the team's second attempt, but he didn't call a timeout and Nate Robinson intercepted a pass which appeared to be intended for Jarrett Jack that led to the game-winning layup.

"We ran a back screen for Jarrett, he didn't cut and Jeff didn't call a timeout," O'Brien said.

Jack disagreed.

"Maybe I should have saw (the back cut), but he didn't draw it up going to the rim," Jack said. ". . . We had trouble getting open. Jeff thought somebody was going one way, he threw it up there. They were able to get a steal and convert a layup."

O'Brien's postgame interview lasted just seconds after the 123-119 loss.

"We played with a lot of guts, missing three starters," O'Brien said as his second and final answer. "I thought we played well enough on the road. We just didn't pull it out at the end."

Dunleavy Likely To Miss Rest Of Season

Feb 24, 2009 10:27 AM

Pacers forward Mike Dunleavy will likely miss the remainder of the regular season with an ongoing knee problem.

"I think he's done for the year," coach Jim O'Brien said. "That's where I think he is. Whether he thinks he is or somebody else does, I'm proceeding as if he's going to be done for the rest of the year."

Dunleavy, who has only played in 18 games this season, hasn't appeared on the court in two weeks.

"He's looking at all his options," O'Brien said. "It's disappointing for him, and also something that's difficult for the franchise to deal with because he makes a lot of money, deservedly so, but you're operating on a situation where if you don't have somebody like that, that you're operating on less of a budget. That's a difficult situation."

Dunleavy Searching For Answers Regarding Knee

Feb 23, 2009 9:17 AM

Pacers forward Mike Dunleavy says that he should have a better indication of how to treat his injured right knee by the end of the week.

"It's tough what happened," Dunleavy said Sunday. "I've got to see a couple more people. Right now it's a fact-finding process."

Dunleavy is seeking opinions from outside the organization, and it's possible that he'll miss the remainder of the season.

"I'm very disappointed," he said. "More importantly, I'm disappointed for the organization and the fans. I feel like I can't do anything about this. Hopefully we can get this right and move forward."

Indiana Refused To Give Up Cap Flexibility

Feb 21, 2009 6:00 PM

The Pacers fielded, and made, several calls prior to Thursday's trade deadline, but simply didn't find a deal they felt was worth making official.

"We weren't willing to take on long-term deals with players who weren't going to be part of our core group," general manager David Morway said. ". . . We weren't going to do anything to reduce our cap flexibility, which was something we worked really hard to get and wanted to retain. If we could have added a draft pick, we would have, but teams are holding on to them for now."

Pacers' Foster Happy To See Deadline Pass

Feb 21, 2009 9:08 AM

Pacers center Jeff Foster, who admitted that he gets nervous around this time of year, was happy to see the trade deadline pass on Thursday.

"You can ask anybody, I tend to get nervous this time of year," Foster said. "That's how I am. Obviously I wish our record was better and we didn't have the injuries that we do. I love Indiana. I love the Pacers. I'm happy to be here for hopefully beyond this year. I wouldn't have signed the extension before the season if I didn't want to finish my career here."
