Victor Oladipo Logs 19 Minutes In Scrimmage, Still Undecided About Playing In Regular Season

Jul 24, 2020 1:27 AM

Victor Oladipo said he still hasn't decided whether he'll play in the regular season after suiting up for the Indiana Pacers for their first scrimmage.

"In January and February, it was just about getting comfortable again, and I think me right now, I'm a lot more comfortable now after getting some practice in. Physically I feel better than I did back then," said Oladipo.

Oladipo, who announced in July that he wouldn't play in Orlando, scored eight points in 19 minutes against the Blazers.

Nate McMillan added that the two have yet to discuss whether Oladipo will play in the regular season.

"We haven't talked about the start of the season. We've basically been focused for this first preseason game, and he's available for tonight."

Pacers Expect Victor Oladipo To Play In Scrimmage

Jul 20, 2020 8:54 PM

The Indiana Pacers expect Victor Oladipo to play in their first scrimmage this week when they play the Portland Trail Blazers.

Oladipo continues to reconsider his decision to opt out of the NBA's restart.

"I do," said Nate McMillan when asked whether he thinks Oladipo will play. "He's going through the practices and he's looking good," McMillan said. "Our first scrimmage is Thursday and we'll see how our guys feel and get them minutes accordingly. Right now, there is no restrictions on anyone."

Oladipo initially opted out while continuing to rehab his quadriceps tendon.

Malcolm Brogdon Wearing Mask During Practice

Jul 17, 2020 11:32 AM

Malcolm Brogdon is wearing a mask as a safety precaution during practice.

Brogdon previously tested positive for COVID-19.

"I intend to do it until we start playing games," Brogdon said Thursday. "It's something I've been doing for my conditioning and just to be considerate of the guys just in case guys were worried about me previously contracting the virus. Just wearing it to help be cautious and make guys feel comfortable."

Brogdon was cleared to resume practice after completing his quarantine.

"I had very mild symptoms," Brogdon said. "Had a fever and a headache but [other] people that come down with the virus, they had it way worse than I did, so I was very fortunate and very blessed that I've completely gotten over the virus and I feel great. So, I'm back to 100 percent."

Victor Oladipo Declares 'Strong Possibility' He'll Play In Return

Jul 15, 2020 2:11 PM

Victor Oladipo has reversed course and has indicated there's a "strong possibility" he'll play in the NBA's return if his body continues to respond to workouts.

“My body is feeling good,” Oladipo said Wednesday after the Pacers practiced. “It was hard for me to assess where I was at…with Corona and all of that, I couldn’t really control it. There’s a possibility I could play.”

Oladipo initially declared he would not play for the Pacers when the season restarts, citing concerns over a lack of conditioning for the torn right quad he suffered in January of 2019.

The NBA and NBPA are also disputing whether Oladipo would be owed his remaining salary for the season if he doesn't play despite traveling with the Pacers to the bubble.

“Be cognizant of the fact that I am human,” Oladipo said. “There are some days that I’m not, don’t get me wrong. I could be a super hero any day. As a matter of fact, I am, I’m telling you, but even super heroes have kryptonite. But in all seriousness, though, I’m coming out here and I’m trying my best to take it one day at a time. I feel like the universe will manifest itself, and whatever is supposed to happen, will happen.”

Victor Oladipo's Remaining $3M Salary For 19-20 In Dispute With NBA, NBPA

Jul 14, 2020 1:10 PM

Victor Oladipo is in an unresolved dispute over his $3 million remaining for the season.

Under the rules the NBA established for its season restart in Orlando, players who were healthy but opted not to play would have to forgo their remaining salary for the season.

Oladipo announced two weeks ago that he was healthy but had decided not to play to ensure his recovery from a torn quad tendon suffered in January 2019.

Oladipo traveled with the Indiana Pacers to Orlando and is practicing.

Lawyers from the player's union and the NBA have reviewed the situation and there is dispute over where Oladipo's situation falls.

The Pacers support Oladipo's decision and are willing to pay him the salary whether he plays or not. Oladipo has one year and $21 million remaining on his contract after this season.

Oladipo has reconsidered his decision as he practices this week.

Victor Oladipo Decides To Sit Out Remainder Of Season

Jul 3, 2020 4:15 PM

Victor Oladipo has decided to sit out the remainder of the 19-20 season.

“I really want to play, and as a competitor and teammate this is tearing me apart,” Oladipo told Shams Charania of The Athletic. “I feel like I’m at a great place in my rehab and getting closer and closer to 100 percent. With all the variables, from how I have to build my 5-on-5 workload back up, to the increased risk of a soft tissue injury which could delay my rehab, and the unknown exact set up of the bubble, I just can’t get my mind to being fully comfortable in playing. I have to be smart and this decision hasn’t been easy, but I truly believe continuing on the course I’m on and getting fully healthy for the 2020-21 season is the right decision for me.”

Oladipo has one year left on his four-year, $84 million deal with the Pacers.

Oladipo has spent the past three months training with his physical therapist, Luke Miller.

“Vic looks great and feels great and is in the best shape he’s ever been in,” Miller said. “He hasn’t had a setback at all. Now it’s about him taking everything into account, close this 2019-20 chapter and focus on 2020-21, which I believe will be a big one. He’s extremely close to the old VO, but he’s not there yet and he knows the work to get back there."

Victor Oladipo Undecided About Playing In NBA's Return

Jul 1, 2020 2:05 PM

Victor Oladipo remains undecided on whether he will report to Orlando with the Indiana Pacers for the NBA's restart.

Oladipo is hesitant to commit right away while evaluating the risk of reinjuring his quadriceps tendon.

"Nah, I haven't made a decision just yet. Just taking it one day at a time," Oladipo said. "I feel like when the day comes, I'll know. I appreciate my teammates and this organization for backing me and supporting me with whatever decision I make, but at the same time, I'm focused on me getting as strong as possible and getting where I'm at.

"Like I said, I'm taking it one day at a time and hopefully I can make a decision soon. We'll see."

Oladipo remains on Indiana's travel party list.

"I don't have a deadline," Oladipo said.

Oladipo is scheduled to become a free agent in 2021 and have held discussions on an extension with the Pacers.
