Hornets Open To Trading Up For James Wiseman

Oct 27, 2020 10:52 PM

The Charlotte Hornets draft third overall and would like to select James Wiseman and would consider trading up for him.

Both the Minnesota Timberwolves and Golden State Warriors are open to trading down from No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. The Hornets could offer the 32nd overall pick and future selections.

Cody Zeller is the only center on Charlotte's roster signed for 20-21 as he enters the final season of his four-year, $56 million deal.

Anthony Edwards is considered the backup plan if Wiseman isn't available to the Hornets.

Warriors, Hornets Believed To Prefer James Wiseman

Oct 27, 2020 11:36 AM

The Golden State Warriors and Charlotte Hornets are believed to prefer James Wiseman.

The Warriors select No. 2 with the Hornets at No. 3, which means Charlotte could need to trade up with either the Minnesota Timberwolves or Golden State to select him.

Kevin O'Connor suggests the cost of moving up could be similar to when the Philadelphia 76ers traded No. 3 and a future first from the Sacramento Kings to the Boston Celtics for No. 1, which became the Markelle Fultz for Jayson Tatum trade.

Wiseman entered the draft season as the top rated prospect but he played in just three games at Memphis.

Wolves Have Yet To Identify Preferred Pick At No. 1

Oct 21, 2020 1:00 PM

The Minnesota Timberwolves admitted they have yet to zero in on one player with the first overall pick, but Gersson Rosas is confident they will identify that player by the time they're on the clock on Nov. 18.

"The analysis is fair," Rosas said during Wednesday's videoconference availability. "There's no guy that has separated himself from the pack from public or external view, but I'm very confident that as we go through this process, the talent will rise to the top and we'll be confident about identifying one guy as the best guy, the best talented player with the most upside and most ability for our organization."

Minnesota will conduct interviews while also exploring the trade market.

"For us, we typically study the draft from 1 to whatever number we feel like is a draftable player," Rosas said. "And we'll evaluate those guys for trade scenarios, trade back, trade out, for undrafted free-agent opportunities, for minor league opportunities, so we really beat up the draft board as much as can all the way up until the draft.

"But I do, now, at the stage that we're at, about a month out, we have formulated a lot of opinions, but you want to challenge those as much as you can here as you go all the way up to draft night, but our staff has done an unbelievable job."

Anthony Edwards, James Wiseman and LaMelo Ball are widely considered the top three prospects in the draft.
