Nikola Vucevic, Anthony Davis Named NBA Players Of The Week

Nov 19, 2018 5:17 PM

Anthony Davis and Nikola Vucevic have been named the NBA's Players of the Week for games ending Nov. 18.

Davis led the Pelicans to a 3-1 week behind averages of 34.3 points (ranked 2nd in the NBA), 14.0 rebounds (4th in the NBA) and 2.0 blocks (T-5th in the NBA). Davis helped lead the Pelicans to a win at Toronto – handing the Raptors just their second loss of the season, and their first loss at home, behind 25 points and a season-high 20 rebounds – a 19-point comeback victory against New York on Nov. 16, registering a season-high 43 points to go with 17 rebounds and five assists, and capped off the week with 40 points, eight rebounds and a career-high-tying eight assists, while shooting 20-of-21 at the free throw line, Nov. 17 vs. Denver. Davis finished the week as one of just five players (at least 50 field goal attempts) to shoot at least .500 from the floor, .400 from three-point range and .850 from the free throw line.

During four games last week, Vucevic averaged 27.8 ppg., 10.5 rpg., 4.0 apg. and 1.25 stlpg., while shooting .581 (43-74) from the floor and .471 (8-17) from three-point range. He led Orlando to a 3-1 record with wins over Philadelphia, the L.A. Lakers and New York. Vučević tallied three double-doubles and scored 28-or-more points in three consecutive games, becoming the first Magic player since Dwight Howard accomplished the feat Mar. 1-5, 2012.

Blazers, Pelicans, Lakers, Heat, 76ers Could Have Interest In Carmelo Anthony

Nov 14, 2018 11:19 AM

Carmelo Anthony is expected to leave the Houston Rockets and a number of teams have emerged as potential destinations should he either be traded, waived and claimed, or signed as a free agent.

“I heard three teams I think it can be for Melo, and this could change—I mean, he’s still with Houston—New Orleans, Portland and the L.A. Lakers. Those are the three teams I heard,” said Kevin O'Connor.

Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated previously reported that the Lakers "are done" making any free agent signings in the short-term. Spears reported that the Miami Heat and Philadelphia 76ers could also be interested in Anthony.

Pelicans Held Extensive Trade Talks With Wolves For Jimmy Butler

Nov 12, 2018 11:38 AM

The Minnesota Timberwolves held extensive trade discussions with the New Orleans Pelicans centered on Jimmy Butler over the past week.

The Pelicans are desperate to add another star to their core with Anthony Davis.

But the Pelicans refused to include Jrue Holiday or any draft picks in their offer.

The Wolves ultimately traded Butler to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Bulls' Front Office Couldn't Wait To Trade Nikola Mirotic

Nov 7, 2018 11:51 AM

Before Nikola Mirotic was traded by the Chicago Bulls to the New Orleans Pelicans, he wasn't a particularly popular member of the organization.

The front office reportedly couldn't wait to trade Mirotic and some of his teammates weren't particularly bothered when he was punched in the face by Bobby Portis.

“I’ll say this about Niko: He was unbelievable throughout everything,” coach Fred Hoiberg said. “I loved the opportunity to coach Niko. What he did when he got back from the injury last year and helped us in that seven-game win streak, you know he was playing great basketball. I give him all the credit in the world and everyone involved with what happened last year. A lot of credit for not letting that affect the team.

“Niko was great. Fun guy to coach, and he was obviously skilled in a lot of different ways. I’m happy he’s having a lot of success in New Orleans.’’

Anthony Davis Interested In Playing With DeMarcus Cousins Again

Nov 1, 2018 6:23 PM

Anthony Davis has interest in playing with DeMarcus Cousins again in the future.

The New Orleans Pelicans chose not to aggressively attempt to re-sign Cousins in the offseason following his Achilles injury.

"He will be a free agent next year. Hopefully, down the line we can reconnect," Davis said.

Cousins is aware of Davis' interest in him re-signing with New Orleans, a source said.

"Of course, it was a s----- situation," Davis said. "But I felt like we had something going. I think if he would have played in the playoff series against the Warriors it would be different."

The Pelicans would essentially have to part with Julius Randle and Nikola Mirotic to create cap space to sign Cousins in 2019.

Anthony Davis Focused On Pelicans, Not 2021 Free Agency

Nov 1, 2018 6:18 PM

Anthony Davis was asked about his future with the Pelicans a few months away from potentially signing a supermax contract. Davis can become a free agent in 2021 if he doesn't sign an extension.

"I got two years to '20-'21. I'm here and whatever happens after that happens," Davis told ESPN's The Undefeated. "For me, right now it is about being the most dominant player in the league and helping this team win.

"You hear all the rumors. You hear all the talk. But it's not coming from me. I'm here to be a Pelican, help this team move forward and help this team win a championship."
