Anthony Davis Reiterates Commitment To Pelicans

Feb 22, 2018 5:03 PM

Anthony Davis attempted to clarify comments he made to ESPN about his future with the New Orleans Pelicans.

Davis admitted he's wondered if he's on a similar path as a player like Kevin Garnett who had to leave the Wolves to contend for a title after their roster fell apart in 04-05.

“I don’t go into any year saying, okay, I don’t want to be here or nothing like that, but of course at some point, you want to win — and I feel like we are trying to get the right pieces around here. I think our front office is doing a better job. They’re doing the best job they can do. I feel like we’re moving in the right direction, but you do have to take it year by year and see where it goes. That’s how I’m approaching it. You know, of course, (DeMarcus Cousins) is a big factor and what he’s going to do or not, but I’m here until 2021, man, and then (I’ll) make a decision from there. I don’t plan on leaving in the next couple of years or anything like that. Like I said, I’ve always wanted to be here and that’s still true.”

Davis could become eligible for a designated veteran player extension before 2021.

Anthony Davis Wonders If He's On Same Path As Other Stars Who Were Traded

Feb 20, 2018 5:42 PM

Anthony Davis can become a free agent in 2020 and his future with the New Orleans Pelicans remains in doubt. Davis, however, could be eligible to sign a designated veteran player extension before he's eligible for free agency.

Davis and the Pelicans were on track to easily be a playoff team before DeMarcus Cousins was lost for the season with a torn Achilles.

Davis was asked how he feels when he hears about players like Kevin Garnett who regretted not seeking a trade to improve his title chances earlier in his career.

“It makes you think," said Davis. "I’m not going to lie, it makes you think because you wonder if you’re following on that same path. But then again, you be like, this year could be the year. You don’t know. So you just gotta take it year-by-year and just see. See where the team is going, what direction they want to go to, and just see where their head is.”

Davis also said it's not good enough for the Pelicans to simply reach the playoffs.

Rajon Rondo, Isaiah Thomas Ejected As Video Tribute Controversy Lingers

Feb 15, 2018 9:27 AM

Rajon Rondo and Isaiah Thomas were ejected from Wednesday's win by the Pelicans over the Lakers.

Rondo aggressively hounded Thomas' every move, even during stoppage in play late in the first quarter, before the two had to be separated and were tossed with 33.3 seconds left.

Thomas claimed Rondo brought up the video tribue the Celtics had planned for him earlier this season, which coincided with Paul Pierce's jersey retirement.

Rondo spoke publicly about his displeasure with the Celtics honoring Thomas.

"What has he done?" Rondo told the Worcester Telegram & Gazette in January. When told that Thomas led the Celtics to the Eastern Conference finals last season, Rondo said, "Oh, that's what we celebrate around here?"

"This is the Boston Celtics," Rondo said. "This isn't the Phoenix Suns. No disrespect to any other organization, but you don't hang conference titles. Do we hang going to the conference finals? What do we hang here?"

"Whatever reason, he's an upset guy about me," Thomas said after Wednesday's game. "I don't know what it is, but it's fine. He kept bringing the tribute up, when I was the one that shut the tribute down. I'm far past that. ... For me to be ejected was uncalled for."

Thomas said he didn't know whether there was any other history with Rondo.

"I mean, my team beat his team in the playoffs last year," Thomas said, referring to the Celtics beating the Chicago Bulls 4-2 in the first round last postseason. "Maybe that is what's wrong. I don't know. There's nothing. Nothing should've made that escalate like it did. He already had his agenda written down right when I checked into the game. It was obvious. He picked me up full court, trying to be physical.

"I don't know what was going on with him. I don't know why I got thrown out. I don't want to comment too much on it. ... It was obvious what was going on. He was being too aggressive for whatever reason, and he also hit me in the face three times. At some point, as a human, if no one is going to protect me, I got to protect myself, and that is when I spoke up and got upset. I hope the NBA figures something out with that, because it was wrong for me to be ejected."
