Carmelo Anthony Felt 'Stabbed In The Back' By Knicks

Oct 18, 2017 11:40 PM

Carmelo Anthony's debut with the Oklahoma City Thunder will coincidentally come against the New York Knicks.

Anthony talked about his exit from the Knicks.

"I always envisioned myself coming back, even when I was being pushed out," Anthony told reporters at the Thunder's practice. "I think for me, I knew what was going on behind closed doors, I knew the talk that was happening. I just wanted them to come to me direct and say, 'Look, this is what we're thinking,' and not have to read it or hear about it and then go to them and say, 'What is this?' If they felt that I just wanted them to be honest and direct.

"I think I was very honest and direct with them about wanting to be in New York, wanting to be on a winning team, wanting to have a good team. I was very honest with that. I just didn't feel like they were honest with me."

Anthony also reflected upon his relationship with Phil Jackson.

"I was always, 'I'm going to put my trust in Phil, I'm going to put my trust in Phil,'" Anthony said. "That diminished after a while. I'm out here doing everything I can and I'm still getting stabbed in the back. I'm not trusting in that anymore. I'm trusting in these guys [teammates] that are out here. Whoever's out here, this is who I'm dealing with."

Mike D'Antoni Had No Reservations About Coaching Carmelo Anthony Again

Oct 9, 2017 12:45 PM

Mike D'Antoni and Carmelo Anthony had a tumultuous working relationship when they were with the New York Knicks and appeared close to a reunion this offseason with the Houston Rockets.

The Rockets and Knicks were unable to execute a trade and Anthony was dealt to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

D'Antoni says he wouldn't have had an issue coaching Anthony again.

"Oh yeah. We all get a little bit, hopefully, better at what we do. And it's a whole different situation and we know that James (Harden) and Chris (Paul) are good friends (of Carmelo's) so it's a whole different thing," D'Antoni said Monday. "Actually after New York, we went to USA Basketball and we won a gold medal again so it's not like it's anything new."

Carmelo Anthony: I've Always Been A Product Of My Environment

Oct 2, 2017 3:00 PM

Carmelo Anthony was asked what "Olympic Melo" means to him as many expect that version of his game to be displayed playing alongside Russell Westbrook and Paul George.

“Olympic Melo connotation comes into play [where] I’m surrounded by great players,’’ Anthony said. “I try to get where the game is easier for myself, easier for everybody else. That’s where I can come in and not have to do too much and bring my game and help me blend with other guys.

“I’ve always been a product of my environment. Whatever environment wants from me, that’s what I give my environment. This environment is different, reminds me of being around Olympic teams, those great teams.’’

Anthony also compared the vibe in Oklahoma City to his one season at Syracuse.

“I’m like born again a little bit,’’ Anthony said. “I feel like I’m in college again. My second college campus being around in a city with a college feel. The energy and joy is back with the game of basketball. I can feel it when I wake up. That energy is different. I think you’ll see something special.’’
