The Raptors hired former player and coach John Lucas as a basketball development consultant for the remainder of the season, the team announced on Friday.

Lucas, who has helped players get their personal lives on track in the past, will assist the coaching staff in the development of the players? on-court skills with the Raptors.

The Miami Heat are in need of a point guard and could be in position to draft Derrick Rose with a high lottery pick, but they could turn their sights towards a free agent.

They could offer their mid-level exception to restricted free agent Jose Calderon, but Toronto is expected to match any offer the point guard receives, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

T.J. Ford, who has been a starter for a majority of his NBA career, said on Tuesday that teammate Jose Calderon should start at point guard in Toronto for the rest of the season, according to SLAM! Sports.

"I think Jose is doing a good job as a starter; he should continue to start probably for the rest of the year," Ford told SLAM! Sports. "I don't think starting is a big deal to me; I just want to get out and help the team win, and at the end of the day it's all about wins and losses."

Toronto Coach Sam Mitchell weighed in on Ford's comments.

"Jose had to play so many minutes when T.J. was out, (so) T.J. came back right at the nick of time," Mitchell said. "It takes some pressure off Jose. Now, Jose doesn't have to gut games out. He can play hard, and when he's spent, boom, T.J. comes in. It gives Jose a chance to get his legs back."

Raptors' General Manager Bryan Colangelo confirmed on Saturday that the team is not interested in signing Toronto native Jamaal Magloire, according to the Toronto Sun.

Magloire was waived by the Nets on Friday.

The Pistons sent Primoz Brezec to Toronto for guard Juan Dixon.

Dixon, 29, averaged 4.3 points and 11.8 minutes in 36 games for the Raptors this season.

Juan Dixon has been traded by the Toronto Raptors, but he still doesn't know where his final destination will be.

It will be a one-for-one deal with some cash likely involved.

Billy King, who is now an analyst for ESPN, revealed a trade he had agreed upon with the Raptors when he was GM of the Sixers.  

The Sixers would have sent Larry Hughes to Toronto for Tracy McGrady and a first round pick.

Stephen A. Smith broke the trade and the Raptors ended up getting cold feet and the deal fell through.

A league source told the Chicago Tribune that the Bulls and Raptors are discussing a trade that would bring Joe Smith to Toronto.

The Toronto Star reported that Bryan Colangelo's attempts were rebuked.

Smith is due $5.8 million next season and has been a productive player in Chicago's disappointing 2007-08 season.

Sam Mitchell, who missed the team's last two games to attend the funeral of his father-in-law, will return to coach the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night against the Orlando Magic, according to CBC Sports.

Assistant Jay Triano took over in Mitchell's absence, becoming the first-ever Canadian coach to coach a regular season game.

A deal that would send Mickael Pietrus to Toronto for Juan Dixon and Joey Graham has been discussed, according to a league source.

Pietrus has wanted out of Golden State since the summer.
