Calderon Should Be Ready For Camp

Aug 24, 2010 7:44 AM

Jose Calderon is expected to be ready for training camp despite a leg injury serious enough to keep him out of this month's World Championships in Turkey.

Calderon suffered a torn muscle in his leg during Spain's exhibition game against the United States on Sunday.

Spanish team officials said Calderon would need "four weeks" to recover from the injury, putting him back just before camp starts.

"It's unfortunate that he will miss the worlds and playing for his country which he loves to do," Raptors coach Jay Triano said.

"The timing for him is not good, but he should heal sufficiently to be ready for camp and that will now be his focus."

Bosh Insists He Didn't Quit On Raptors

Aug 18, 2010 5:06 PM

Chris Bosh has again insisted that he never quit on the Raptors during his time in Toronto.

"Nobody wanted to make the playoffs more than me," Bosh told Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated.

"Nobody else wanted to make it more than me, trust me. I put in the work to be successful. I had a turned ankle and I had a broken nose that I had to stay in the hospital for, and I played through it. I know what I put into that organization and what I put into it was everything I had every night."

Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo suggested last month that Bosh mailed it in towards the end of his final season with the team.

"Whether he was mentally checked out or just wasn't quite into it down the stretch, he wasn't the same guy," Colangelo said.

The new Heat star rejected the suggestion.

"I've never quit at anything," Bosh said. "Comments like that, they don't bother me as a player. Professionally, I'm disappointed. [Colangelo and I] went through a lot together. He was the GM and we both tried our best to make that team better while I was there. We had many conversations, we went back and forth on e-mails, so just to hear that, it's disappointing. But at the end of the day, there's no reason to be upset. I know that I would have done anything to win."

Barbosa Admits He Asked Suns For Trade

Aug 17, 2010 4:13 PM

Leandro Barbosa admitted recently that he requested a trade from the Suns following the 2009-10 season.

Phoenix sent the guard to Toronto in a deal that landed them forward Hedo Turkoglu.

"I asked for a trade after the season. I told Phoenix I wanted to play in a better situation for me, which I think I have in Toronto," Barbosa told DIME.

"I didn't get that chance to play a lot in Phoenix, so I wanted to go to a different team. The first team that came was Toronto, and I have a good relationship with Bryan Colangelo, so everything worked out."

Bobcats Tried To Acquire Jose Calderon

Aug 12, 2010 7:44 AM

The four-team, five-player trade that went down on Wednesday could have actually been a lot bigger, according to a league source.

The Bobcats and Raptors nearly got involved in the fray.

Under one additional wrinkle, Charlotte would have sent Erick Dampier to Indiana, the Pacers would have shipped T.J. Ford to the Raptors and the Bobcats would have acquired Jose Calderon.

In the end, the four original teams decided to move forward with the initial trade.

Charlotte nearly acquired Calderon earlier this season in a deal that would have sent Tyson Chandler to Toronto, but Bobcats owner Michael Jordan nixed it at the last minute.

Raptors, Nets To Play First Regular Season Games In Europe

Aug 9, 2010 11:28 AM

The National Basketball Association will make basketball history when the league holds its first-ever regular-season games in Europe, NBA Commissioner David Stern announced today. The New Jersey Nets and Toronto Raptors will square off for back-to-back games at The O2 arena in London, England, on March 4 and 5 as part of NBA Games - London 2011.

"The staging of our first regular-season games in Europe is a milestone for the NBA and the ongoing development of basketball in the region," said Stern. "By bringing these two young and exciting teams to London, we are fulfilling our commitment to schedule a regular-season game in the UK prior to the 2012 Olympics -- a natural progression given the overwhelming response to the many friendlies we have played to sold-out crowds over the years."

Turkoglu Voices Criticism Of Colangelo

Aug 2, 2010 3:27 AM

Hedo Turkoglu spoke critically of the Raptors organization over the weekend.

"People have to realize something is wrong with that organization and nobody wants to go there anymore," he said in a phone interview from Turkey. "It's not just the players who see this."

Bryan Colangelo recently accused Chris Bosh of quitting on the team during the second half of the 09-10 season.

"It's funny that people will talk behind your back," Turkoglu said of Colangelo. "If he was feeling this way, why not have the guts to say it during the season? Why not say it to Chris? Now that Chris has left, it's not nice to say those things.

"Chris has been a franchise player and he did a lot of good things for the Raptors. I don't think Chris is the type of player to quit on his teammates.

"I just don't understand why you would say these things," he added. "Like I said, that organization has problems."
