While the future of Pau Gasol in Memphis is most likely the most intriguing, the futures of Dahntay Jones, Stromile Swift and Brian Cardinal are also unclear.
Each player was at one time considered integral, and now their position with the team is uncertain at best.
"I've been through trials and tribulations in a Grizzlies uniform," Jones said. "I've learned things. My patience has been tested. I don't think I've grown the way I was supposed to. But who knows what the future of this franchise is. Memphis is a great place to be so I wouldn't have a problem with coming back."
If the Grizzlies don't work out a contract extension with Jones, they'll likely tender a $2.7 million qualifying offer that would ensure Jones played a fifth season in Memphis. Jones would then become an unrestricted free agent following the 2007-08 season -- playing out the scenario Swift did before leaving for Houston in 2005.
Swift is under contract beyond next season, but he didn't sound confident about his job security in Memphis.
"For a while, it seemed like they were going in a different direction, like they didn't want me here," Swift said. "I don't want to be nowhere I'm not wanted. But I couldn't get a feeling about where I stand. If I'm still wanted here it's where I'll be."
Cardinal is owed about $19 million over the next three years. He signed a six-year deal worth nearly $39 million, but has fought injuries through most of his tenure.
