Magloire To The Wizards?

Jun 30, 2006 2:59 AM

The Milwaukee Bucks have one - and possibly two - trades still in the works that could come to fruition in the days ahead, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

One would undoubtedly involve center Jamaal Magloire, whom Harris would not hesitate to move if the right deal came along. Washington is said to be interested. The other possible trade, according to a source, would be of a more "surprising" nature.

Asked if his trade options involving Magloire had dried up, Harris said: "No. I think the thing was once you got into the draft, it was more focused in on that (draft). I didn't have anything for Jamaal relating to the draft. So when we got into the draft process, it really had no bearing on whether we could move Jamaal or not. (The conversations were) strictly draft picks, future draft picks and things like that."

Harris did try to move into the first round or at least up in the second round.

"A lot of things were going on," he said.

Harris said that he was among those who were on the phone with the Blazers, who made six trades on draft night.

"I was trying to do a couple things with Portland," he said. "They seemed to want to trade their whole team or at least acquire seven or eight players. I mean, it's incredible what was going on. I talked to (Portland scout) John Gabriel, and I said 'John, it's impressive; how are you keeping your roster updated?' They need all kinds of tags and erasers with all that stuff going on."

Hearing For Arenas Rescheduled

Jun 28, 2006 6:11 AM

While Gilbert Arenas is hinting at bolting Washington when his contract expires, the Wizards continue to go to bat for their star guard.

Arenas missed a court hearing Tuesday on a charge of resisting an officer without violence, and a warrant was briefly issued before the arraignment was rescheduled.

The Associated Press is reporting that the Wizards contacted the judge on Gilbert Arenas' behalf and told him the player didn't receive a written notice regarding the court date, Wizards president of basketball operations Ernie Grunfeld said in a statement.

Slom then lifted the arrest warrant, canceled the $2,000 bond and rescheduled the arraignment. A date has not been set. Slom said missed first court appearances and rescheduled arraignments are common, especially for people from out of state.

"We are very confident this issue will be resolved," Grunfeld said.

Arenas Says He Is Willing To Take Pay Cut To Help Wizards Win

Jun 28, 2006 4:14 AM

Envisioning a situation similar to Kevin Garnett and Allen Iverson, Gilbert Arenas said on Tuesday that he would be willing to take a pay cut in order to help the Wizards win.

Just two days ago, the Washington Times reported that Arenas may elect to opt out if the club wasn't contending for a championship.

"I don't want to be like Garnett, getting close like he did a couple of years ago and then seeing his team go backwards," Arenas said. "A.I. went to the Finals that one year and now he's not even making the playoffs. I don't want to be in that position here. I want us to be like Dallas, like San Antonio, places where players want to come play."

Bench Warrant Issued For Arenas' Arrest For Missing Hearing

Jun 27, 2006 11:23 AM

According to the Associated Press, Washington Wizards star Gilbert Arenas missed a court hearing Tuesday for his arraignment on a disorderly conduct charge, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Neither Arenas, the Wizards' leading scorer, nor his attorney showed up for the morning arraignment, so Circuit Judge Samuel Slom issued a bench warrant for the player's arrest and set a $2,000 bond.

In response, Assistant State Attorney Kerrie Crockett said Arenas would have been eligible for pretrial diversion.

Jeffries Soon Could Entertain Offers

Jun 27, 2006 2:33 AM

Houston, Philadelphia, San Antonio and New York are all interested in Wizards restricted free agent Jared Jeffries, according to John N. Mitchell of the Washington Times and the team must soon decide if the forward fits into their future plans.

Jeffries averaged just 25.3 minutes a game in the regular season, which concerned some teams at the time. However, when the Wizards demonstrated a need to rely on him more in the playoffs and his minutes increased, his agent, Andy Miller, believes those teams put those fears to rest.

"Teams wondered about why his minutes fluctuated, and he did to," Miller said yesterday. "I know that Jared is going to want have more confidence that he's going to see his playing time be more stable."

Sources with the Wizard have said they want to keep Jeffries, but that will no doubt depend on the offers he receives.

Arenas Could Bolt In 2008

Jun 26, 2006 10:27 AM

Gilbert Arenas hopes to play for a championship team and if the Wizards do not assemble one that is championship-calibre by 2008, Arenas may leave the team via free agency.

Arenas's agent Dan Fagan stated that he has faith in Ernie Grunfeld to build the team up to where it needs to be, but that Arenas's top priority is to win a championship.

"I won't be happy just making it to the playoffs every year and that's it. I want to compete for a championship in my young years," said Arenas.
