Arenas Denies Accounts Of Police Report

May 30, 2006 11:45 PM

According to the police report of Gilbert Arenas' arrest, he said: "You can't arrest me. I'm a basketball player. I play for the Washington Wizards and I'm not going to leave my teammate."

Arenas said he never made such a statement.

"All I did was get out of the car to ask where they were taking Awvee so I could come get him out, and some officer comes up from behind and cuffs me," Arenas said in a phone interview.

"Everyone knows me. They know I don't have a cocky personality. I don't use my name to get in trouble and I don't use my name to get out of trouble. That would never come out of my mouth."

The Wizards confirmed Wednesday that Eddie Jordan was docked $25,000 by the league for comments he made following a 97-96 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 3.

"The truth is the truth," Jordan said the next day. "I want our players to understand that we did a lot of things to win the game, and because a travel wasn't called, you don't win the game."

Jordan added that Wizards star Gilbert Arenas "doesn't get the calls that LeBron gets."

Jordan A Candidate For Kings' Job

May 11, 2006 12:34 AM

Just one day after Ernie Grunfeld said there is a "no time frame" for extending Eddie Jordan's contract, the Sacramento Bee listed Jordan as a potential candidate to coach the Sacramento Kings in a report.

Jordan was hired by owner Abe Pollin before Grunfeld assumed duties as president of basketball operations.

Jordan was an assistant with the Kings for five seasons before becoming head coach with 15 games remaining in the 1996-97 season.  Adelman was hired during that summer before the start of the 1997-1998 campaign.

Grunfeld Likes Makeup Of Wizards

May 9, 2006 6:22 PM

Ernie Grunfeld has made major moves as general manager of the Wizards during each summer of his tenure, but he is looking to be a little less active this year.

"I'm comfortable with what we have," Grunfeld said Tuesday, "because I think we've shown that we can compete on the highest level with anybody. Having said that, you always look for things to see if you can make your team better. I think we've shown in our three years here that if the right opportunity presents itself, we're not afraid to pull the trigger."

"I believe in continuity," he said. "I believe in consistency, and you can't make wholesale changes every single year and expect to have that good chemistry."

Wizards Still Say Cavs Got Breaks Because Of LeBron

May 9, 2006 2:15 AM

According to the Associated Press, Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas reiterated the sentiment that the Cavaliers got the breaks in the first round series between the two teams because of LeBron James during the teams exit meetings on Monday.

"It was little things that stood out in big times in the games," Arenas said. "You're going to get away with walks and travels and fouls at the beginning of the game, but that last 30 seconds to a minute. ... I said earlier in the series: We have to actually beat them to beat them. If it's a close game, we're not going to win."
