Knicks Reportedly Hesitant To Trade Kevin Knox At Deadline

Feb 29, 2020 2:33 PM

The New York Knicks were reluctant to deal Kevin Knox at the trade deadline, league sources told Ian Begley of SNY.

The Knicks, under previous president Steve Mills, had put together a deal they felt the Warriors would have liked for D'Angelo Russell. It is unclear whether the package included Knox.

Many in the Knicks organization view Knox as part of their young core moving forward, alongside Mitchell Robinson and RJ Barrett.

The 20-year-old is averaging 6.5 points and 2.8 rebounds this season.

Glenn Robinson III Doesn't Understand Why 76ers Traded For Him

Feb 28, 2020 11:03 AM

The Philadelphia 76ers acquired Glenn Robinson III and Alec Burks from the Golden State Warriors at the trade deadline to give the team more depth on the wing.

Robinson has had his playing time cut in half, which has been disappointing considering he'll be a free agent this offseason.

“Even when (Golden State) played Philly, I showed them what I could do,” Robinson told Basketball Insiders. “So to play those consistent minutes a night and perform well… that’s the most disappointing part about coming here is that — both of us (are) coming off career years where we’re looking at hopefully big numbers after the season. I know I’ve got a family to feed. So you think about all those things.

“All those things play a role, and then when you come here and your role’s not really explained or you don’t know what’s going on with the trade — it’s not like it was a trade where you come in and immediately have an impact. It’s a little different, so… this team is full of wings, full of guys who can play. So really, I don’t really understand it. But it’s a business, you’ve got to make it happen and go out and try to do your best every night.”

Robinson hopes he'll play a bigger role as the season continues.

“As a competitor, as an NBA player — this is my sixth year — I think that’s always gonna be there to want more and more,” Robinson told Basketball Insiders. “So I’m definitely interested to see what happens down the stretch here.”

Robinson also talked about the impact changing teams in the middle of the season has on a player.

“You’ve got family. You’ve got to try to get out of a lease, move your stuff, all of that. I think that people don’t realize how much it is,” Robinson told Basketball Insiders. “You’re expected to be at the next place in like the next day or two after the trade, so I think it’s just a lot going on. And then, you’ve got to go out on a court and focus and play like nothing happened.

“I mean at the end of the day, we’re still human beings. And that’s what I tell people all the time. To try to get people on a flight the next day is crazy to me. But it is a business. It is what it is at the end of the day and we just try to make it work.”

Magic, Pistons Had Interest In Exploring Trade For Spencer Dinwiddie

Feb 27, 2020 2:03 AM

The Orlando Magic and Detroit Pistons had interest in trading for Spencer Dinwiddie, league sources told Ian Begley of SNY.

Begley adds that teams around the league think highly of Dinwiddie, who is on a three-year, $34.4 million deal.

Sean Marks recently stated that he would look to Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant for advice on how to shape the Nets' roster moving forward.

"I love that our players have ownership in this. (Kyrie) and Kevin (Durant) and the rest of guys that have all signed on here and are a part of this, they hope to build this, hope to build something sustainable and something not only they can be proud of but that's long-lasting for the borough. So, I always take a select handful of players in terms of (talking to them about) how we continue to build this. We've done that from Day 1, gathered their thoughts," said Marks in an interview on WFAN's Benigno and Roberts Show earlier this week.

Several NBA executives expect the Nets to be active on the trade market this summer.

Pistons Won't Buyout Derrick Rose After Rebuffing Trade Inquiries

Feb 24, 2020 11:57 AM

The Detroit Pistons rebuffed interest from the Los Angeles Lakers in trading for Derrick Rose. The Lakers have been seeking a perimeter scorer to round out their roster.

"No, there's no chance," said Brian Windhorst on The Hoop Collective Podcast in reply to a question on whether the Pistons might negotiate a buyout with Rose. "He's under contract for next year at a good number. From what I understand, when the Lakers called the Pistons and expressed an interest in trading for Derrick Rose, the Pistons said 'hey, we appreciate you calling, but we're not trading him. Dwane Casey likes him. We think he's going to be important for us next year.' He just wasn't available."

Rose signed a two-year, $15 million deal with the Pistons this past offseason.

Magic 'Tried Hard' To Trade Aaron Gordon Before Deadline

Feb 12, 2020 5:34 PM

The Orlando Magic had trade discussions involving Aaron Gordon ahead of the deadline last week. The Golden State Warriors were one of the teams engaged in talks as the Magic had interest in D'Angelo Russell during the 2019 offseason.

“They were trying, and they tried hard to get something done with him at the deadline," a source said of Gordon. "All that gets brought back into focus once the season is over and you have a good idea what the market is for him.”

Gordon has not been trying to get traded as he's been content with the situation.

Gordon signed a four-year, $76 million contract with the Magic in 2018, but his fit with Jonathan Issac in the Orlando frontcourt is less than optimal.

The Brooklyn Nets, Phoenix Suns, Denver Nuggets and Dallas Mavericks are mentioned as three teams who could pursue a trade for Gordon in the offseason.

Buddy Hield Could Request Trade From Kings If He Remains Out Of Starting Lineup

Feb 12, 2020 4:44 PM

The Sacramento Kings replaced Buddy Hield in the starting lineup last month with Bogdan Bogdanovic.

Hield signed a four-year, $94 million extension with the Kings before the start of the season, but Bogdanovic will be a restricted free agent this offseason and the franchise would like to retain him.

A source with knowledge of Hield's thinking said he could request a trade if he remains displeased with his role. Hield is paid starter money and believes he should be a starter in the NBA.

Hield has already shown a willingness to be publicly critical of Luke Walton.

Bogdanovic is one of Hield's best friends on the team.

Celtics 'Aggressively Pursued' Trade For Davis Bertans

Feb 11, 2020 2:21 PM

The Boston Celtics "aggressively pursued" a trade for Davis Bertans at the trade deadline, according to Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated.

The Wizards are hoping to re-sign Bertans and resisted trade offers for him as he has a breakout season.

According to Mannix, the Celtics were "willing to go deep into the draft war chest to pry Bertains loose."

The "war chest" of the Celtics is an outdated mode of thinking as they only own this year's first round pick from the Memphis Grizzlies and the Milwaukee Bucks.

Jimmy Butler To Joel Embiid: I Know A Place Where Villains Are Welcome

Feb 11, 2020 9:50 AM

Jimmy Butler replied to Joel Embiid's cryptic social media post on Monday evening.

Embiid posted a photo of himself silencing the crowd in Philadelphia after hitting a key three-pointer with the quote "You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain" as the caption.

Butler and Embiid were teammates last season.

Butler replied "I know a place where villains are welcome." Butler presumably was referencing the possibility of Embiid joining the Miami Heat. Embiid cannot become a free agent until 2023 and the Heat almost certainly don't have enough assets to trade for him relative to what rival teams could offer.

Jrue Holiday: I Feel Like I'm Built For This Pelicans' Team

Feb 11, 2020 8:50 AM

With the New Orleans Pelicans rebuilding around Zion Williamson and presumably Brandon Ingram, there has been talk for months about the possibility of trading Jrue Holiday.

Both Holiday and the Pelicans have maintained that they would like him to remain with the team.

"I honestly feel like I'm built for this team, and the way that we've been able to come together has really been cool," Holiday told CBS Sports. "I feel like I'm committed to this team and the players. I know for me personally, I try not to let my teammates down, so every time I come out here I feel like I try to put on my hard hat and my armor and go out there and fight for them."

After a slow start to the season, the Pelicans are now within range of a playoff spot.

"It's been fun, just being able to grow together," Holiday said. "Going through tough times, like losing 13 straight and coming out of that and feeling like -- obviously there's an upside to that."

Rival Teams Starting To Prepare For Possibility Of 76ers Trading Joel Embiid

Feb 10, 2020 2:08 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers are currently fifth in the Eastern Conference as they have been one of the NBA's more disappointing teams with questions continue to surround the viability of Brett Brown as head coach and whether Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons can fit alongside each other.

"I've got lead executives talking to me as we go through this, hours and hours and hours that I spend on the phone in and around the deadline, even after the deadline," said Brian Windhorst on his podcast. "Some of the worst for me is the three days of debriefing calls that these guys... I'm very appreciative, I mean I do it. I was on the phone until almost midnight Pacific time after the deadline talking to people.

"But anyways, one of the conversations people are starting to have in the league is 'will they move Embiid? What's the price? Where would he go?'

"I'm not going to get into that, but my point is people are talking about that. I don't think they would do that without making an adjustment to the head coach. It's such a radical thing, but the fact that we're in mid-February and the people who work in the league, who have to prepare in advance, are mulling over Joel Embiid potentially coming to market, whether that's true or not... I mean, Josh Harris can come on this podcast and deny it if he wants, but the fact people are talking about it, is not good. It's a symptom of where they are."
