Baron's Hamstring Feeling Better

Nov 27, 2005 7:19 PM

Baron Davis, who had seven points and 14 assists on Saturday, is pretty much over his strained left hamstring, the Contra Costa Times reports.

"I'm struggling offensively, but I'll definitely start to pick it up, because I'm feeling better," Davis said.

Diogu Back From Injury

Nov 23, 2005 5:39 PM

Ike Diogu, the Warriors' No. 1 pick, practiced Tuesday for the first time this season and has received medical clearance to play. If all goes accordingly, Diogu will make his NBA debut against San Antonio tonight.

"No point saving him," coach Mike Montgomery said. "If there's a situation where he can run up and down and we can simplify (the offense) for a couple of minutes, we'll see what he does. If he looks like he's comfortable, we'll probably try to go back to him in the second half."

Diogu has been out since fracturing the fourth metacarpal bone in his left hand on Oct. 10, the last day of training camp. More than six weeks later, he finally went through a full-contact workout. The Warriors held a light practice after completing a back-to-back set the night before, so most of Diogu's work came from a post-practice scrimmage with the team's younger players and Calbert Cheaney.

Diogu felt good enough to hang on a rim following a dunk and reported no pain afterward. The rookie will wear a protective glove on his non-shooting hand -- think boxing glove with the top and bottom cut off -- but said it shouldn't affect his ballhandling or shooting.

Pietrus To Miss A Few Weeks With Knee Sprain

Nov 22, 2005 4:48 PM

Warriors swingman Mickael Pietrus left with a right knee sprain with 4:35 remaining in the second quarter and did not return. He had his knee in a blue wrap and was walking on crutches in the postgame locker room.

The Warriors are officially listing Pietrus as day-to-day, but Pietrus estimated he would be out two to six weeks. He said the injury occurred when the Nets' Marc Jackson attempted to draw an offensive foul on Derek Fisher and instead was hit with a blocking foul.

Jackson tumbled backward into Pietrus, who was trying to position himself for a rebound. Pietrus immediately knew something was wrong.

"That's why I asked for a timeout, because I could not run, I could not do anything," said Pietrus, who was taken to the locker room for X-rays and will be re-examined today. "That's basketball. I'm young, 23 years old, I'm still a puppy; I got time to wake up. I think I'm going to be all right. It's not like I'm going to lose a year. Couple of weeks and I'm going to be back."

Rookie Diogu Close To Returning

Nov 17, 2005 6:23 AM

Rookie forward Ike Diogu is close to returning from injury, Warriors Coach Mike Montgomery said before Wednesday's game against the Milwaukee Bucks.

``I suspect he should start practicing here pretty soon,'' Montgomery said. ``But we've just got to get clearance from the doctor.''

Diogu, who suffered a broken finger in his left (non-shooting) hand more than five weeks ago, is likely to hit the ground running. Montgomery can use more inside offense and a physical big man.

Montgomery said he wants to experiment with Diogu working inside and Troy Murphy working outside. He thinks it can work if one of those two can guard the post sufficiently.

``We've just got to get him some time,'' Montgomery said of the first-round draft pick from Arizona State. ``We'll have to simplify, adjust some of the calls and try to make them specific to him.''

Diogu's Injured Hand `Making Progress'

Nov 12, 2005 7:27 AM

Good news comes in small increments these days for rookie forward Ike Diogu.

The Warriors' first-round pick got a little dose of it Thursday, when his fractured left hand was re-examined and found to be ``making progress,'' according to a team release.

He's scheduled to be examined again in two weeks. When Diogu will make NBA debut is not known. He suffered the injury Oct. 9 during training camp.

``I started doing some shooting drills,'' Diogu said before Friday's game against the New York Knicks. ``They're still holding me out of contact, but I can pretty much do everything else without doing the contact.''

But Warriors Coach Mike Montgomery knows Diogu will be facing an uphill climb once he's cleared to play. Following along mentally is one thing, getting acclimated to the fast-paced flow of an NBA game is another.

``We're trying to get him so he mentally recognizes the offense in terms of numbers, or if we say something he knows where he's supposed to be,'' Montgomery said. ``But again, if you get nervous in a game then that's a whole different deal as well. He's just going to have to get some game experience.''

Warriors' Richardson, Montgomery Slapped With Fine

Nov 12, 2005 4:30 AM

Golden State coach Mike Montgomery was fined $25,000 by the NBA on Friday and Jason Richardson was hit with a $20,000 fine, both for failing to leave the court in a timely manner and for verbal abuse of an official.

Stu Jackson, the league's senior vice president of basketball operations, announced the penalties, two days after the incident following the Warriors' 85-84 road loss to the Chicago Bulls.

Montgomery had no comment on his fine Friday before Golden State faced the New York Knicks.

Bone Bruise Keeps Duhon Out Of Practice; Questionable For Warriors

Nov 9, 2005 2:09 AM

For a week, Chris Duhon didn't say much about the bone bruise on his right knee.

Tuesday, he couldn't avoid it.

The injury kept him out of practice and leaves him questionable for Wednesday night's game against Golden State.

He suffered the injury in the season opener last week against Charlotte when he and Raymond Felton collided.

"I've been trying to fight through it," Duhon said. "Some days it feels good, some days it doesn't."

Warriors' Davis Out With Strained Hamstring

Nov 5, 2005 1:31 AM

Guard Baron Davis missed the Golden State Warriors' game against Utah on Friday night with a strained hamstring.

Though Davis' latest injury isn't considered serious, coach Mike Montgomery decided to rest his oft-injured star guard, who got hurt in the third quarter of the Warriors' season-opening victory over Atlanta.

Davis, a last-minute scratch from the lineup, wasn't in uniform or on the Warriors' bench as the game against the Jazz began, apparently receiving treatment in the locker room.

Warriors Offered Murphy For Magloire

Nov 4, 2005 4:30 PM

According to the New York Post, Chris Mullin offered Troy Murphy and a No. 1 pick to the Hornets for Magloire.

Mullin had done well dealing with the Hornets as he picked up Baron Davis at last year's trade deadline.

Magloire ended up being dealt to Milwaukee for Desmond Mason.
