Warriors Asked Draymond Green To Mentor Jonathan Kuminga As Condition Of New Contract

Mar 18, 2024 2:18 PM

When Draymond Green signed his new four-year, $100 million contract with the Golden State Warriors last June, Joe Lacob asked him to serve as a mentor for Jonathan Kuminga as an unwritten part of the deal.

"Joe said, 'I know you're going to play and lead and all of that, but I need one more thing,'" Green recalled. "He said 'I need you to take JK under your wing.

"I said, 'You got my word ...To me, that was a condition of the contract."

During Green's suspension, he focused on watching Kuminga. Green noticed that Kuminga needed to attack defenses by using his speed and athleticism on drives to the paint.

"He can always jump and get himself out of trouble," Green said of his advice to Kuminga. "Nobody else is going to be up there with you. Most of us, we've got to find angles, and different things to score, but if you get in trouble with anything, just jump."

"Him watching the games at home, it was him watching film, pretty much, and it actually helped me understand who I am," Kuminga told ESPN.

"My back has been bothering me for like four or five games. And I've been just kind of like going through it, playing through it," Green said. "The hope is that… those extra couple days will allow it to go away, because it’s just no fun. And it’s also has been kind of in that same area that I had the issue before."

Stephen Curry Leaves Game With Sprained Right Ankle

Mar 8, 2024 9:24 AM

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry left Thursday's loss to the Chicago Bulls late in the fourth quarter due to a sprained right ankle. Curry rolled his ankle while passing off a drive to the paint.

The severity of the injury is unknown. Tere's not a sense for how long Curry will be out, according to Warriors head coach Steve Kerr. Curry was icing his foot postgame, but that was the only update Kerr had.

Curry was plagued by ankle injuries early in his career. Several sprains to both his right and left ankles caused him to miss time over his first few seasons in the NBA.

While Wiggins will be away from the Warriors indefinitely, Steve Kerr said he does hope he returns this season.

After a slow start to the season, Wiggins had been playing better over the past few weeks especially since the return of Draymond Green and the elevation of Jonathan Kuminga.

Jordan Poole Considered To Have One Of NBA's 'Worst' Contracts

Mar 1, 2024 11:00 AM

Jordan Poole has three seasons and $95 million remaining on the four-year, $128 million extension he signed with the Golden State Warriors before the 22-23 season.

Zach Lowe writes that Poole's contract could be the "worst" one in the NBA.

The Warriors sent Poole and a protected 2030 first round pick to the Washington Wizards for the expiring contract of Chris Paul. The outlay the Warriors sent to the Wizards was a signal even then that Poole's contract was viewed as a net negative.

Poole is averaging just 16.3 points this season with a TS% of .513. When Poole had a breakout season in 21-22, he had a TS% of .598 while averaging 18.5 points.

Poole, who can be a free agent in 2027, is represented by Drew Morrison and Austin Brown.
