Livingston Makes Progress On Knee

Dec 29, 2007 4:07 AM

Point guard Shaun Livingston is scheduled for another checkup in Alabama next week to test the progress of his injured left knee.

If everything checks out with Dr. James Andrews, who is considered one of the nation's top orthopedic surgeons, Livingston will move on to the next phase of his rehabilitation: regaining the explosiveness in his left knee that he had before his gruesome February injury when he tore three ligaments and dislocated a kneecap.

"It'll be trying to get that back," Livingston said. "The explosion. Really planting off and jumping on it."

Livingston is still hoping to resume practice with the team in February with a possible return the next month. He is fitted with a custom-made knee brace and has traveled with the team the last month.

Clippers' Davis Out For The Season

Dec 23, 2007 2:06 AM

Reserve forward Paul Davis sustained a season-ending injury -- a torn ligament in his right knee -- in Friday's loss to the Dallas Mavericks.

Davis landed awkwardly on the leg while deflecting the ball off the Mavericks' Erick Dampier in the second quarter and stayed on the ground for several moments before being helped off the court.

The injury was originally diagnosed as a sprain, but afterward Davis said, "I definitely never felt anything like that before."

An MRI in Los Angeles on Saturday performed by team physician Dr. Tony Daly revealed the extent of the injury.

He sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament, a stabilizing ligament within the center of the knee, and also tore his lateral meniscus (cartilage around the knee). He is scheduled to meet with Daly again Monday and his surgery will probably take place within 10 days once the swelling in his leg subsides.

"He has worked hard, and this was the year he was getting an opportunity to play and the last couple of games he was playing well for us," Coach Mike Dunleavy said. "Hopefully, he has a speedy recovery and bounces back."

Dec 23, 2007 2:02 AM

With about 4 1/2 minutes to go in the first, Ginobili grabbed his left hand and left the court. The team said he sprained his left index finger. It's the same injury Ginobili had Dec. 2 against Portland.

Cassell's Name Coming Up In Trade Talks

Dec 22, 2007 1:56 PM

According to a report in Sports Illustrated, Clippers' guard Sam Cassell's name has popped up several times in regards to players rumored to be traded before the Feb. 21 trade deadline. No specific teams, however, were mentioned.

A prime reason why Cassell is attractive trade bait is because with his experience and ability; he would be a solid addition to a team vying to go deep in the playoffs. Just as importantly, the 38-year old Cassell has an expiring contract.

"I haven't heard anything, but I'd like to be here," Cassell said. "But if something happens, that's just part of this business and I can't cry about it."

Brand Makes Progress

Dec 17, 2007 9:58 PM

Elton Brand stood near a basket, then jumped off both feet ever so slightly while shooting a hook shot.

The Clippers' franchise forward, who ruptured his left Achilles' tendon in the off-season is still months away from game action, but Monday was the first time Brand has left his feet since the injury.

"It felt good," Brand said. "Light jump shots, shooting, ballhandling, defensive slides earlier. Everything was real low impact. It was a big step for me today."

"To be semi-in practice, it was an important step."

Brand also walked and did light jogging on a treadmill for 20 minutes and will look to increase that as his Achilles heals.

"Seeing [injured guard] Shaun [Livingston] out here shooting the ball and doing stuff and E.B. starting to do the same, yeah it's good," Coach Mike Dunleavy said. "No question."
