Magic Johnson Doesn't Want Lakers To Replicate Cleveland's High Usage Of LeBron James

Nov 29, 2018 8:08 PM

Magic Johnson is taking the long view on the usage of LeBron James and referenced how he hopes the Los Angeles Lakers don't make the same mistakes the Cleveland Cavaliers did.

"We are trying to make sure that we watch his minutes but also that we don't run everything through him because now it is Cleveland all over again and we don't want that," Johnson said in an interview on SiriusXM NBA Radio. "We want to get up and down."

Johnson wants to keep James as fresh as possible for seasons to come and that's why they prioritized signing playmakers like Rajon Rondo and Lance Stephenson.

"Basically minutes, trying to make sure we don't overplay him and then also usage of the ball in his hands," Johnson told SiriusXM NBA Radio. "We got a lot of ballhandlers so we feel we won't overuse him in terms of his ballhandling and also every play has to run through him. I think we got proven scorers -- Kyle Kuzma, Brandon Ingram ... and then when you have two point guards like Ball and Rondo, we don't have to have LeBron having the ball in his hands all the time."

LeBron James Launches DTC Supplement Company Called Ladder

Nov 27, 2018 10:47 PM

LeBron James has launched a supplement company called Ladder alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lindsey Vonn, and Cindy Crawford.

The company will be in the direct to consumer supplement space.

James began developing his own food supplements after the 2014 Finals, and eventually mentioned his regime to Schwarzenegger.

“He explained to me that the whole idea behind it was that he cannot afford to be tested and not pass a drug test,” Schwarzenegger said. “I found that fascinating, because that was always my complaint about the (protein) products, that they don’t know what is in this. You know that, ‘OK, this is protein or this is whey protein or this is milk protein or this is egg protein. You know that, but you don’t know exactly what is in it.”

Vonn is in a similar situation as James as she can't afford to fail a test.

Cavs Asked LeBron James To Commit Long-Term If They Declined Kyrie Irving's Trade Request

Nov 19, 2018 10:12 AM

When Koby Altman was dealing with the trade request of Kyrie Irving, he asked LeBron James if he would commit to the franchise long-term if Irving was not traded. James said that he wouldn't commit to that stipulation.

James was adamant that the Cavaliers not trade Irving, especially not to the Boston Celtics.

The Cavaliers traded Irving to the Celtics and James signed with the Los Angeles Lakers on July 1, 2018.

LeBron James: Everyone Knows Kyrie Irving Trade Was The Beginning Of The End

Nov 19, 2018 10:12 AM

When LeBron James was informed that the Cleveland Cavaliers were going to trade Kyrie Irving to the Boston Celtics, he was adamant on a call with Koby Altman immediately thereafter that they don't trade Irving to Boston. James wanted the Cavaliers to keep Irving altogether.

According to four separate accounts of the conversation, Altman told James the trade would not occur.

A few minutes later, word broke that the Cavaliers agreed to trade Irving to the Celtics in principle.

When James was shown the news, he dropped a pen he was using to sign jerseys for Upper Deck and slumped in his chair.

“Everyone knows that when Kyrie got traded it was the beginning of the end for everything. It’s not a secret,” James said in an interview with The Athletic.

James doesn't feel as though he was lied to by Altman as much as Altman was overruled by Dan Gilbert.

“You realize at that point in time, take nothing from Koby, because Koby (was just named GM), but at that point in time, you realize that Koby’s not the only one running the team, as (former GM David Griffin) had done, and that’s why Griff was let go pretty much,” James said.

A large reason why Irving requested a trade from the Cavaliers was because he no longer wanted to played with James. Irving told the Cavaliers that he'd go ahead with a knee surgery he needed if he wasn't traded.

Erik Spoelstra: Luke Walton Is Perfect Coach For LeBron's Lakers

Nov 19, 2018 8:48 AM

Erik Spoelstra believes Luke Walton is the ideal head coach for LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.

"I told [Walton] the same thing I'll tell everybody else," Spoelstra said. "He's the perfect guy to coach that team. He has purple and gold bleeding from him. He is a Laker. He did a tremendous job with Golden State when he had to take over for Steve [Kerr].

"And if you look at his whole professional career, all of [it] he has been involved with are teams like this with great expectations, with a lot of pressure and a lot of noise," Spoelstra continued. "He doesn't know any different. I don't think you can find a better fit to coach that team."

Walton reached out to Ty Lue and Spoelstra after the Lakers signed James this offseason.

"We had a really good talk," Walton said of Spoelstra. "We talked for a couple hours. And he was great."

Rajon Rondo Out Four Weeks With Broken Hand

Nov 15, 2018 9:05 AM

Rajon Rondo suffered a broken right hand when his hand hit the floor during the fourth quarter of the Los Angeles Lakers' win on Wednesday over the Portland Trail Blazers.

Rondo is likely out four weeks with the injury.

“Next man up, next man up,” said LeBron James.

Lonzo Ball took over the starting spot while Rondo was serving a three-game suspension, but Rondo has been key with the second unit.

“Rondo does a lot for our team, you know?” Tyson Chandler said. “Vocally, defensively, keeping our second unit intact. Unfortunately, you have this in the league, so the next man’s gotta step up – and it can’t be one guy. Whenever a player goes down, one guy’s not gonna replace him. It has to be a team effort.”

Blazers, Pelicans, Lakers, Heat, 76ers Could Have Interest In Carmelo Anthony

Nov 14, 2018 11:19 AM

Carmelo Anthony is expected to leave the Houston Rockets and a number of teams have emerged as potential destinations should he either be traded, waived and claimed, or signed as a free agent.

“I heard three teams I think it can be for Melo, and this could change—I mean, he’s still with Houston—New Orleans, Portland and the L.A. Lakers. Those are the three teams I heard,” said Kevin O'Connor.

Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated previously reported that the Lakers "are done" making any free agent signings in the short-term. Spears reported that the Miami Heat and Philadelphia 76ers could also be interested in Anthony.

LeBron James: I Almost Cracked Last Week

Nov 13, 2018 11:15 AM

The Los Angeles Lakers have been uneven so far this season as they incorporate LeBron James and a number of new veterans.

“I haven’t changed anything outwardly, but you know me. You know how I am. I almost cracked [last week]. I had to sit back and remind myself, ‘[Expletive], you knew what you were getting yourself into,’” James told Yahoo Sports while laughing after Saturday’s win in Sacramento. “This process has been good for me. I just have to continue being patient.”‬

The Lakers have gone 5-1 since Magic Johnson spoke to reporters and said Luke Walton's job was secure following reports of a heated exchange between the two on Oct. 30.

The Lakers have also been aided by the addition of Tyson Chandler.

‪“He’s huge,” James said about Chandler’s presence after Sunday's victory. “We knew we had a spot that needed some reassurance, and for us to get Tyson in the fashion that we got him and to be able to implement him right away and the impact that he’s made in these three games thus far, it’s great.”‬
