Redd: Bucks Need To Gel Quickly

Sep 23, 2009 4:04 PM

Bucks guard Michael Redd says that the team needs to gel quickly as they enter training camp.

"I'm anxious to see how we do in preseason," Redd told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "We've got to develop chemistry quick, in training camp and preseason."

The Bucks traded Richard Jefferson to the Spurs and lost Charlie Villanueva (Detroit) and Ramon Sessions (Timberwolves) via free agency.

"We just need guys to step up and play minutes they normally would not have played," Redd added. "We're very young. It will be interesting to see how we turn out."

Rookie guards Brandon Jennings and Jodie Meeks figure to play a significant role this season.

Bucks Add Dominic James To Camp Roster

Sep 23, 2009 7:24 AM

The Bucks have added former Marquette point guard Dominic James to their training camp roster.

James impressed Milwaukee with his play during a summer league camp in July, and the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel says that he would have been on the team's Las Vegas summer league team if he hadn't picked up an injury.

"He's a guy people projected to be an NBA player earlier in his career, and injuries set him back," general manager John Hammond said of James. "He's one of those guys who will have to be right place, right time, but if it all fits for him, he could make the league."

Bucks Take Cautious Approach With Bogut

Sep 22, 2009 7:43 AM

The Bucks are being cautious with center Andrew Bogut, who missed half of last season because of a lower back injury.

Milwaukee will open training camp next Tuesday and it remains to be seen how much the center will be able to participate. The team's goal is to have him ready for their Oct. 30 regular-season opener in Philadelphia.

"I still have a ways (to go)," Bogut told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "But in saying I have a ways to go ... it's going to be an everyday thing for me for the rest of my life to keep my back strong. It's not going to be like, OK, now that I've rehabbed my core and have gotten it strong, I can just get back to playing basketball.

"That's probably the most tricky part for people who have these injuries ... rehab the hell out of it and get back and then a week or two weeks or three or four, you feel 100% and you feel you can (conquer) the world and can kind of forget about the things you were rehabbing. ... Probably the biggest focus that I have is just making sure that I stay on top of things. There's still discomfort. It's something that's probably going to bug me this whole season and probably the rest of my life."

Bucks coach Scott Skiles is hopeful that he'll have his starting center on the floor when the 2009-10 season begins.

"He's on his way to 100%, trying to get there," said Skiles. "We're trying to be smart about it. We don't want to do anything at this time of year where we're putting too many stresses on him, where he has some kind of setback. There will be times where, Michael (Redd) and he both, where all the way up to opening night, I may as a precaution hold them out of a certain practice or an exhibition game. But not because there's anything wrong with them. Just to make sure we're not putting too much stress on him because the goal is to be ready for the start of the season."

Bucks See A Star In Jennings

Sep 20, 2009 10:44 AM

When the Bucks drafted Brandon Jennings with the 10th overall pick, they believe a star was born in Milwaukee.

"I think he's going to come in and impact us," assistant coach Kelvin Sampson said. "Our point guard position right now is significantly better than it was at this time a year ago, and that's a fact."

The Bucks have Luke Ridnour, Jennings and Roko Ukic at point guard.

Kahn: Best Days Are Ahead For Sessions

Sep 12, 2009 10:02 AM

Timberwolves president David Kahn believes that the best is yet to come for Ramon Sessions.

The Bucks chose not to match the offer sheet that Sessions signed with the Timberwolves last week, and the point guard officially became a member of the team on Friday.

"Ramon has already demonstrated the ability to play significant minutes at the NBA level, yet is only 23," Kahn told the Pioneer Press. "We believe, like our team, his best days are ahead of him."

Sessions Joins Wolves As Bucks Do Not Match

Sep 11, 2009 2:50 PM

The Bucks did not match the four-year, $16.4 million offer sheet Ramon Sessions signed with the Timberwolves one week ago.

Sessions becomes a member of the Wolves.

"We are not going to match the Ramon Sessions offer sheet, Bucks' GM John Hammond said. "As always we will be diligent in looking to improve our roster. We wish Ramon the very best."

The Bucks were under a deadline to match the offer sheet by Friday in order to retain Sessions, who will now join lottery pick Jonny Flynn in the Minnesota backcourt.

Clippers Preferred Sessions To Iverson

Sep 7, 2009 8:34 AM

Allen Iverson was courted by the Clippers earlier this summer, but they were more enamored with Ramon Sessions.

Mike Dunleavy never really seemed too interested in Iverson, according to NBA.com's David Aldridge.

Dunleavy far preferred Sessions, but the Clippers couldn't put together a sign-and-trade deal with the Bucks for the restricted free agent.

Now, with news that Iverson is set to meet with the Grizzlies on Monday, the Clippers could lose out on both guards.

Warrick Wants Opportunity To Start

Sep 7, 2009 7:18 AM

Hakim Warrick knows that he has a chance to start for the Bucks, an opportunity that has motivated him.

Warrick signed a one-year, $3 million deal with Milwaukee after Memphis withdrew their qualifying offer to the forward. He averaged 21.4 minutes per games over the first four years of his career, all of which were spent with the Grizzlies.

"That's something that motivates me," Warrick told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "When I get consistent minutes, I've shown I can go out there and produce. Coming here, I want to show my consistency, be out there on the floor and help this team win."

Warrick could see time at both small and power forward with the Bucks.

"That's something I talked to coach (Scott Skiles) about before coming in, and he said he could see me doing that," Warrick admitted. "That's something we'll continue to work on and see how it goes."

He added that his main focus this offseason has been improving his mid-range jump shot.

"Coming in (the NBA) as a rookie, I really didn't have that shot," he said. "I came out in the summer and really worked on that. I think I've shown a lot of improvement over the last three years.

"I'm not going to be able to out-jump everybody and be physically stronger than most of them, so you need that shot."

Bogut Doesn't Expect Bucks To Match Offer To Sessions

Sep 6, 2009 10:30 AM

Milwaukee center Andrew Bogut doesn't think the team will match the offer sheet that Ramon Sessions signed with Minnesota.

"He's got a great contract in Minnesota. We wish him all the best, but I think with the point guards we have in our roster now, it would be tough to find minutes for all four with a fourth point guard," Bogut said in an interview with HoopsHype.

The Bucks have Luke Ridnour, Brandon Jennings and Roko Ukic at the position.

"We have time to match but I don't see it, honestly," Bogut added. "Well you never know, we could make a trade. I'm not saying we are going to do that, but you never know in the NBA."
