Vucevic Grabs Magic Franchise-Record 29 Rebounds

Dec 31, 2012 10:37 PM

Nikola Vucevic scored a career-high 20 points and grabbed 29 rebounds -- an Orlando Magic franchise record -- in Sunday's 112-110 loss to the Miami Heat.

"Yeah, I knew how many rebounds I had," Vucevic said. "Teammates kept telling me to get 30, and I was close. But I only wish we would've won the game."

Vucevic broke Shaquille O'Neal's 19-year-old franchise high.

Turkoglu Aims To Return Saturday

Dec 28, 2012 12:51 PM

After missing all but one game this season, Hedo Turkoglu is hoping to return to the Orlando Magic on Saturday against the Toronto Raptors.

“I’m feeling much better,” Turkoglu said on Friday. “I had a good workout today. I’m going to have one later today, too, and hopefully, I’ll feel much better tomorrow morning and I’ve got a shot for tomorrow night.”

Turkoglu has missed most of this season because of the broken left hand he suffered in the Magic's season opener on Nov. 2.

Magic Left Ryan Anderson 'In The Wind'

Dec 24, 2012 10:51 PM

Ryan Anderson will return to Orlando as a member of the New Orleans Hornets.

Anderson was acquired by the Hornets in a sign-and-trade in the offseason during his restricted free agency.

“[The Magic] were waiting to see what they were going to do with Dwight and a few other pieces. And for me it was a situation that was just so different because, obviously, I didn’t have a relationship with Rob Hennigan,’’ said Anderson. “They didn’t even have a coaching staff at that point. For me, I was just kind of in the wind. I was playing it by ear and whatever happens, happens.

“I’m incredibly blessed to be [with the Hornets] and to have the deal that I got, and I’m very happy. But as for Orlando, I didn’t hear much from the Orlando side (during free agency) because it was just so many new people. I’m sure it would have been different as far as communication-wise if Otis and Stan were still around.’’

Harrington Making Significant Progress Toward Return

Dec 24, 2012 9:48 PM

Al Harrington knows he's a long way from playing a game, but he believes that he is recovering faster than expected from a staph infection in his right knee.

Harrington ran up and down the court, shot baskets and did light jumping on Monday at Amway Center in a post-practice session lasting 30 minutes.

“That was a big step for me,” Harrington said afterward, drenched with sweat.

“The biggest thing now is obviously [my] wind and getting all the strength back and just being confident to go out there and play how I want to play,” he added, referencing the arthroscopic surgery he had in May that led to the infection. “That’ll take some time, and until I get that confidence, I’m not going to be able to help my team on the court.”

Harrington has already made it clear that he has absolutely no plan to retire anytime soon.

“I just wanted to get it out there I’m working too hard to retire,” he explained. “I’m putting in three hours a day on my knee in here with the team, and then I do some stuff at night. So, I’m putting in all the effort I can to get out there as soon as possible. I don’t even know how to spell retirement.”

Turkoglu Making Progress Toward Return

Dec 23, 2012 9:10 PM

While the Orlando Magic don't know when exactly Hedo Turkoglu will return to action, Turkoglu is making progress and took a step forward in his rehabilitation from a broken hand.

Turkoglu worked out in the weight room at Amway Center and shot around afterward on Sunday.

Turkoglu broke his left hand in the Magic's regular season opener on Nov. 2 and has missed all 26 games since.

Jacque Vaughn is not sure when Turkoglu will come back, but he has stated the veteran forward will have to practice at least once before playing a game. For now, Turkolgu hasn't practiced with the team yet.

Magic Grow Close After Successful Road Trip

Dec 11, 2012 12:12 AM

The Orlando Magic returned home from their nine-day road trip that ended 3-2 after Sunday night's 98-90 win over the Phoenix Suns.

Not only did the Magic get impressive wins over the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors, but they also booted team morale over the course of the trip.

"We are a young team that is learning through experience, from the rookies to the coaches," power forward Glen Davis said.

"'Together.' It's what we say every day in the huddle. We're starting to live it every single day now, and being on the road brings it together even more, because now you're in a building with 20,000 other people, and they're against you. So that mentality has to spread, not only away, but at home."

"We can take a lot of positives out of this whole road trip," point guard Jameer Nelson added. "We gave ourselves a chance to win in every game, and we won three out of the five. The two we lost, we had our opportunities to win."

Pat Williams: Trading For Bynum Would Have Been 'Mess' For Magic

Dec 4, 2012 4:36 PM

Rob Hennigan and the Orlando Magic were widely criticized for their decision to trade Dwight Howard for a package that centered around Arron Afflalo, Nikola Vucevic, Maurice Harkless and multiple picks instead of acquiring a proven NBA center in Andrew Bynum or Brook Lopez.

"I just want to say that one of the fears with him was the tendency, as he got hurt, that he’s got a history with feet and ankle problems," Magic SVP Pat Williams said in regards to Lopez.

"I don’t think we’d be real happy with Andrew Bynum right now," Williams said. "If he were sitting here it would be a mess."

Bynum has yet to play this season for the 76ers.

Magic Admit Win Over Lakers, Dwight Felt Special

Dec 3, 2012 11:45 AM

The Orlando Magic defeated the Los Angeles Lakers by a final score of 113-103 in Dwight Howard's first game against his former team.

“We can all say it was just a basketball game, but we know because of things that happened in the past, especially for our fans, it means a lot more to come get this victory," said Jameer Nelson. "A lot of guys that are on this team now didn’t go through what we went through last year: myself, J.J. and Glen and Turk. We went through some things.”

“We played big tonight,” Davis said.

“It means a lot, showing the hard work that we’ve been putting in and just staying together as a group. And, also, it gives back home the fans something to be proud of, something to feel good about, that we’re a young team and we’re trying to make a difference.”

Howard didn't shake hands with any players after the game.

“That’s fine,” Nelson said. “Certain guys don’t shake hands after the game.

“I don’t have any hard feelings to the guy. He made a decision to do what he did. He’s on the team that he’s on. I’m here in Orlando, where I want to be. I just wish him the best of luck. I’m not going to go up and hug him and kiss him or anything like that. I think my coach would be mad at me.”
