Celtics, Spurs, Lakers, Warriors, Jazz Rated As Having Best Uniforms By Uni Watch

Aug 24, 2012 10:52 AM

Paul Lukas of Uni Watch ranks the uniforms of all 30 NBA teams, with the Celtics coming in first.

"The Rolling Stones, "Goodfellas," a Hershey's with almonds -- the classics are classic for a reason," writes Lukas about the Celtics. "That definitely applies to the Celtics' set. No goofy side panels, no extraneous bells or whistles -- just a perfect, vertically arched wordmark and a simple green-and-white color scheme. They rank atop this list despite sometimes wearing that black-trimmed alternate."

The Spurs, Lakers, Warriors and Jazz comprise the remainder of the top-five.

"The Raiders aren't the only team that knows how to wear silver and black," writes Lukas in regards to the Spurs. "In addition to the killer colors, the Spurs are also among the few NBA teams that have successfully incorporated a graphic image into their chest typography -- a small element that goes a long way."

Van Gundy Criticizes 'Naiveté' Of Alex Martins

Aug 20, 2012 6:08 PM

Stan Van Gundy was critical of Magic CEO Alex Martins and the way he handled the end of the 11-12 season.

“It’s a typical lack of understanding from someone who has no sports knowledge, who has never coached or played, who has never been in a locker room….it’s a naiveté,” Van Gundy said of Martins.

Van Gundy said that the Magic mishandled the Dwight Howard situation.

“The Dwight thing was so big….in an effort, I guess, to make Dwight happy and everything else, we compromised a lot of the culture and values we had before that. It’s always a mistake when you compromise those things…everything goes South. It was no longer a team-first thing,” he said. “It was inevitable things would not go as well.”

Rob Murphy Decides To Stay At Eastern Michigan, Turning Down Magic Offer

Aug 16, 2012 9:59 PM

Rob Murphy will remain as head coach of Eastern Michigan, passing up an opportunity to join the Orlando Magic.

“We are certainly pleased with Coach Murphy's decision to continue to lead our men's basketball program into the future,” EMU AD Derrick Gragg said. "We look forward to an exciting basketball season that continues the momentum we captured this past year.”

"I would like to end the speculation about my leaving Eastern Michigan University," said Murphy.

"It is true that I had an opportunity to join the Orlando Magic," Murphy said. "Representatives of the Magic were both professional in their approach and respectful of our situation at EMU. I am very appreciative of the opportunity to have spoken with them and would like to publicly thank them for their professionalism and interest. They have a great franchise with a tremendous staff in place, and I wish them nothing but the best."

Rockets Offered Less For Dwight Howard Than Reported

Aug 15, 2012 6:28 PM

The Rockets attempted to acquire either Dwight Howard or Andrew Bynum, but they were unwilling to give up as much via trade as has been previously reported.

Houston was only offering two first round picks, though one would have come from the Raptors and has protections to make it more likely to be a lottery selection.

Many had assumed the Rockets were also offering all three first round picks from 2012, but only Jeremy Lamb had been formally made available.

Houston would only offer two players from a group that included Marcus Morris, Patrick Patterson, Jeremy Lamb, Terrence Jones, Royce White and Donatas Motiejunas.

The Rockets also offered cap relief, but never the type that the Magic sought.

"I enjoyed working with Rob on a potential deal," Daryl Morey told SI.com via text message. "He went with what was best for Orlando and over time people will see that he has made a good decision. He has a plan for Orlando and he has proved his ability to execute a plan to make franchises great from his time in San Antonio and Oklahoma City."
