Aug 31, 2008 4:13 PM

Former teammates of Kevin Duckworth bid him farewell during a tearful tribute on Saturday, according to Oregonian.

There were tributes from teammates, eye-watering tales from friends and family, a proclamation from the mayor, and moving video presentations during a public memorial service.

"He left this world a better place," said former teammate Terry Porter. "He left the Blazers' community a better place."

"People talk about Clyde Drexler being the best player on the team, but I say it was Kevin Duckworth," former teammate Buck Williams said about the Blazers' teams of the late 1980s and early 1990s. "If he played well, we knew we were going to win. He was the X factor . . . the glue that (held) the team together. It's time to cheer for a Goliath of a man. He did so much for the community, he made you so proud."

Oden Participates In 5-On-5 Scrimmage

Aug 29, 2008 11:26 AM

Blazer's center Greg Oden is inching closer to his return as he participated in his first full-court, 5-on-5 scrimmage since he had microfracture surgery last September, according to Oregonian.

Early reports were positive, and even owner Paul Allen came to town to watch the event. Oden did not experience any pain or swelling following the scrimmage.

"The one thing he did that put a big smile on my face is he asked Coach Monty (Williams) to come in at night and work with him," coach Nate McMillan said. "So, he was doing two-a-days, working with Dean (Demopoulos) in the morning and Monty at night. And he did it himself. He would come back at night and work on his footwork with Monty, and for me, that's good. That's great. He is on schedule where Jay Jensen and the trainers want him to be."

Adelman On Duckworth: 'It's A Tragedy'

Aug 27, 2008 7:14 AM

Rick Adelman, the current coach of the Rockets who worked with Kevin Duckworth in Portland, reflected on the death of the center on Wednesday morning, according to Portland Tribune.

"It?s a sad day for anyone who knew Kevin, just because of the type of person he was," said Adelman. "When someone that genuine, with such an honest personality, leaves us so early, it?s a tragedy."

Adelman believes that Duckworth was an underrated player.

"I don?t think people realize how good he was," Adelman said. "He was a perfect fit for our team. Any success you have as a coach is directly related to the players, and (by 1988), Kevin, Terry (Porter) and Jerome (Kersey) just exploded from being serviceable to very good players in the NBA."

The coach claims that he'll miss Duckworth the person more than anything else.

"He was so likeable," the coach said. "You say that about people, but it was really true with him. Nobody disliked Duck. He was very sensitive, but he would do anything for you. People loved the guy."

The Grizzlies are reportedly looking to make a move of some kind after missing out on free agent forward Josh Smith earlier this offseason, according to Memphis Edge.

They reportedly have had trade discussions with the Knicks involving Zach Randolph, and the talks still ongoing.

Memphis is willing to part with Darko Milicic in a package that wouldn't include either Rudy Gay, Mike Conley, or O.J. Mayo.

The Blazers are also looking for a point guard, and could offer Travis Outlaw in a deal with the Grizzlies.
