Thomas Robinson Cited For Driving 107 MPH

Oct 28, 2013 12:25 PM

Thomas Robinson was cited for driving 107 miles per hour on Interstate 5 in Portland on Friday.

An officer “observed a white 2013 Porsche Panamera traveling at a high rate of speed on the freeway,” said Sgt. Pete Simpson, Portland Police Bureau, in an email. “The officer’s LIDAR would clock the vehicle at 107 MPH in a 55 MPH zone.”

Robinson was cited for violation of the Basic Rule (100 MPH +), which carries a fine of $1,150, Simpson said.

Robinson was polite and cooperative during the encounter, Simpson said.

Robinson apologized on Twitter on Sunday morning.

Freeland Surpasses Leonard As Trail Blazers' Backup Center

Oct 25, 2013 12:58 PM

Terry Stotts confirmed on Thursday that Joel Freeland has gained the Portland Trail Blazers' backup center position, supplanting Meyers Leonard.

In Thursday's preseason win over the Golden State Warriors, Freeland played 15:27 while Leonard did not enter the game until late in the fourth quarter.

The Blazers have been impressed with Freeland's defense.

The role that he has, he’s earned a lot of respect from his teammates and the coaches by how he’s impacted the game defensively,” Stotts said. “He had two rim protections tonight, made an impact on the game. We need defense out of that position, and Joel’s earned that.”

Olshey Trying To Transition Blazers Into 'Players-First Culture'

Oct 7, 2013 11:24 AM

Neil Olshey has brought stability to the Portland Trail Blazers in his year with the organization as general manager.

Olshey has overturned the Blazers' strength and training staff along with the video department and a renovation of their practice facility.

“It’s really important to create the best environment possible, so we can transition to a players-first culture,” Olshey said. “When these guys go out and they talk to guys or they tweet guys or they text guys or whatever, they can say, ‘Nobody takes better care of players than the Portland Trail Blazers. This is the best place I’ve been. They have the best resources, best environment, best building, best home crowd and everybody’s got our back up here.’

"That’s what players want to hear. And your players become your best recruiters. We’re creating the best basketball environment we can create, so this will become a top-tier basketball destination.”

Thomas Robinson 'Feels Disrespected', Ready To Prove Value In NBA

Oct 4, 2013 1:30 PM

In the year since becoming the fifth overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, Thomas Robinson has been traded twice.

I'm just pissed off,” said Robinson.

I feel disrespected. A lot of people don't know the ins and outs of this business. That's how it works, man. There's no point in even talking about it. That's the way things work. I'm just ready to play.”

Robinson averaged 10.4 points, 12.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 28.6 minutes per game in Summer League.

Robinson wants to again be mentioned in the same group as Anthony Davis, Harrison Barnes and the other members of his draft class. A fast start to his second season in the NBA, now with the Portland Trail Blazers, would be a good start and could result in a trip to the 2014 Rising Stars Challenge.

It's a start. To put me back in that 'I belong in this group' conversation,” he said. “It (Rising Stars Challenge) would be a stepping stone to putting my face back in the group where I belong....I just want to play basketball and get to where I belong in this league.”
