Kyle Lowry had genuine interest in signing with the San Antonio Spurs in the offseason.
"It was real for me," Lowry told the Express-News, "but it wasn't real for them. That's a part of the business that people don't know. I would have loved to come here, but it didn't work out. The conversation didn't happen. If the conversation happened, I would tell you. But it didn't happen.
"Not saying that I wanted out, but I did look at teams to see what was going on," said Lowry. "I mean this place would've been a great place."
Lowry re-signed with the Toronto Raptors on a three-year, $100 million deal.
San Antonio re-signed Patty Mills in free agency and also added Rudy Gay.

While the San Antonio Spurs and LaMarcus Aldridge agreed upon a three-year extension before the start of the season, both sides were interested in a trade during the offseason.
One scenario the Spurs discussed was trying to acquire Kyrie Irving in a deal for Aldridge.
"The Spurs did talk about trading LaMarcus last year," said Adrian Wojnarowski. "He was very open to being traded. They talked about deals around the draft and they talked about deals in the the summer, when they were trying to get Kyrie Irving."
Aldridge and Gregg Popovich cleared the air before the start of the season.
"Seems right now he's feeling comfortable, he's fitting well. He's more at home now, being himself," said Danny Green. "He's playing good basketball, he's in good shape right now."
"I think he's becoming happier as we go along," Green said.
Gregg Popovich believes he made a mistake in trying to change LaMarcus Aldridge as a player when he first signed with the San Antonio Spurs.
"I did talk with him several times during the summer. He just didn't feel comfortable," said Popovich. "It's 98.75 percent on me, and whatever's left - because I can't subtract that much - on him. But I tried to change him. I thought back to when Timmy [Duncan] came, and people said, ‘What are you going to do with Tim Duncan?' I said, ‘Nothing. I'm just going to watch him for about six months, see what he does. He's a pretty good player, and if there's something I think I can add, then I'll do it.' With LaMarcus, he got here and on Day 1, I said, ‘OK, you're going to do this, and you're going to do this pump fake.' I tried to change him. I tried to make him a different player, and I think that really affected his ability to feel comfortable and confident on the court. And we took care of that, basically by me letting him know that we were going to do it differently, and that it was on me, not him."
Aldridge agreed upon a three-year contract extension before the start of the season.
The San Antonio Spurs and LaMarcus Aldridge have agreed upon a three-year, $72.3 million contract extension.
Aldridge's deal contains a partial guarantee in the final year of the deal.
Aldridge could have become a free agent in 2018.
Gregg Popovich and Aldridge cleared the air during camp after he was involved in trade rumors in the offseason.
LaMarcus Aldridge and the San Antonio Spurs are engaged in serious talks on a contract extension.
Aldridge can reach an agreement with the Spurs that allows him to opt in to the $22.3 million player option on his 2018-19 contract and extend his deal for a maximum of three additional years.
Aldridge could amend his contract during the season to eliminate his 2018-19 player option and extend for an additional four seasons if he's unable to agree upon an extension by Monday's deadline.
The Spurs and Aldridge have been mutually dissatisfied with certain aspects of the relationship, but both sides understand the value of an extension.
The San Antonio Spurs have exercised their third-year team option on Dejounte Murray for the 2018-19 season.
Murray is entering his second season with the Spurs after being selected by San Antonio in the first round of the 2016 NBA Draft (29th overall).
Last year in his rookie season, Murray averaged 3.4 points, 1.3 assists and 1.1 rebounds in 8.5 minutes in 38 appearances.
Murray also played in 11 playoff games, averaging 5.7 points, 2.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds in 15.3 minutes.
Kawhi Leonard is expected to miss the San Antonio Spurs' regular season opener.
“He won’t be available,” Gregg Popovich said on Friday.
Leonard missed the entire preseason schedule while rehabilitating tendinopathy in his left quadriceps.
Leonard has no timetable for his return.
LaMarcus Aldridge cleared the air with Gregg Popovich after an offseason in which the San Antonio Spurs attempted to trade him. Aldridge also was not used in the Spurs' system as he envisioned.
"It was me kind of being blunt about it, and being kind of forward," Aldridge recently told ESPN. "He was open to it. I kind of just spilled my heart about how I felt about how things were, and how things had been going.
"I think he was kind of caught off guard. I don't think he really had noticed [that I was unhappy]. But once I said it, he was great about listening, and it was good from there. I felt like I wasn't really fitting into the system as best I could. I wasn't really helping like I felt I could."
Popovich conceded Aldridge's concerns had merit.
"This is a guy who played for nine years, I believe, before he came here," Popovich said, "and it takes time to get used to a program that is not just new. But when you have nine years under your belt, doing something different, his concerns are totally legitimate.
"We have talked about what we can do to make him more comfortable, and to make our team better. But having said that, I think we are mostly talking about offense. Defense, he was fantastic for us. Now, we have got to help him a little bit more so that he is comfortable in his own space offensively, and I haven't done a very good job of that."
Aldridge attempted to shrug off trade rumors, saying "if it happened, it happened, but it didn't."
"It's a part of the NBA," Aldridge added. "Guys move around and guys go from team to team at times. It happens. I'm used to it. I know I can only control what I do, and that's what I did. I worked hard all summer and got better. Maybe in my younger days in Portland, I might have taken it personal. Now, I'm older and I'm used to the game. I know it's a business. I don't take it personal anymore."
