Deron Expects Exodus In Utah Next Summer?

Sep 23, 2008 4:51 PM

Jazz point guard Deron Williams hinted during a recent interview that he expects a mass exodus to occur in Utah next summer, according to Deseret News.

"A lot of guys got a little bit of pressure on them this year to perform because it's their contract year. I always think that's a plus," Williams said. "I think that's another reason why this season's so important. While we have everybody here, we've got to make a run at it and see what we can do."

Carlos Boozer, Jarron Collins, Brevin Knight, Kyle Korver, Mehmet Okur, and Ronnie Price will all be unrestricted free agents next summer.

Johnsen On Utah's Training Camp Roster

Sep 19, 2008 4:10 PM

Britton Johnsen, a former University of Utah standout, is hoping to make the Jazz this season despite their full roster, according to Deseret News.

"I know there's no spots open as of now," Johnsen said. "I'm going to go and try to do everything I can to make the team; that's my ultimate goal. At the same time, I understand it's going to be a tough (goal to achieve)."

Johnsen had offers from Europe ? where he's spent most of the past four years after short NBA stints with the Magic and Pacers ? but he decided to take the Jazz's offer.

"There's always openings over there," he said, referring to Europe. "I'm just kind of looking at this like maybe something good will happen out of it."

Kirilenko To Russia? Agent Denies Rumor

Sep 19, 2008 8:58 AM

There have been murmurs that Utah forward Andrei Kirilenko could be made an offer by Russia's CSKA in Moscow, but his agent has denied rumors, according to Deseret News.

"There's no question that they would love to have him," agent Marc Fleisher said of CSKA. "But to my knowledge, they haven't made any efforts this summer ? at least through me ? to get him, so I don't take it (the rumor) very seriously."

Kirilenko is under contract through 2011, which means he has three seasons left on the deal.

"As long as a player is under contract with an NBA team, he can't sign a contract to play in Europe (and vice-versa)," Fleisher said, adding that the rule doesn't prohibit contract buyouts.

Utah Has Big Financial Decisions To Make

Sep 16, 2008 5:51 PM

The Jazz have big financial decisions to make in the not-so-distant future, according to Deseret News.

"We're going to have to make some very, very tough decisions next year," owner Larry Miller said. "I do not intend us to be a luxury-tax payer but only because we have to have an economically stable franchise regardless of anything else."

They will be dangerously close to the expected luxury tax threshold entering the 2009-10 season.

Utah point guard Deron Williams appears to be a lock to make the United States national team in 2012 when the Olympics shift to London, according to Daily Illini.

Williams and Jerry Colangelo, managing director of USA Basketball, were honored at halftime of the Illinois alumni game Saturday night.

"Deron was one of my top picks at point guard because I believed in him," Colangelo said. "He did the University proud, the country proud.

And he wants to continue representing this country going forward, so I'm sure you'll be seeing him in 2012 in London."

Training camp doesn't begin for the Jazz until Sept. 30, but Brewer has headed to Salt Lake City from his home in Arkansas to get some additional work in.

"I feel like I've done well with the opportunities I've had, but I'm not satisfied," Brewer said earlier this week. "I always want to strive to get better."
