Jazz Recall Almond And Fesenko From D-League

Utah Jazz General Manager Kevin O?Connor announced today that the team has recalled rookies Morris Almond and Kyrylo Fesenko from the Utah Flash of the NBA Development League (D-League).

Almond, a 6-6, 225-pound guard out of Rice was selected by the Jazz in the first round (25th overall selection) of the 2007 NBA Draft.  He has appeared in six games for the Jazz, totaling three points, one assist, and one steal in 25 minutes of action.

Fesenko, a 7-1, 288-pound center has appeared in seven games for the Jazz, averaging 1.4 points and 3.3 rebounds in 9.1 minutes per game.  He scored six points and grabbed seven rebounds in 17 minutes in a 120-96 Jazz win over the Los Angeles Lakers in his NBA debut on November 30.

Mehmet Okur Is Still Not 100% In Utah

Jazz center Mehmet Okur has suffered from a stomach virus over the past few days and still isn't 100 percent, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.

"It's hard to explain. I'm here, but I'm not; you know what I mean?," Okur said.

He left the team's game on Monday, and the virus has gone through his entire house and family.

Pierce Nearly Dealt To Portland For 2005 1st Round Pick?

The Boston Celtics very nearly dealt Paul Pierce to the Portland TrailBlazers in 2005 in exchange for the number three overall pick.  Several other players would have been included in order to make it work financially.

"We were pretty close," Danny Ainge said.

Ainge likely would have selected point guard Deron Williams.

Kirilenko Won't Travel To Phoenix With Jazz

Jazz forward Andrei Kirilenko will miss another game after being fouled hard by Dirk Nowitzki on Monday night, according to the Associated Press.

That means he will not travel with the team to take on the Suns on Friday night.

"I feel like my leg went one way, my body the other way, and I feel like very sharp pain in the groin," Kirilenko said.

An MRI on his injured hip was negative earlier this week.

Kirilenko Out Wednesday Against Minnesota

Utah forward Andrei Kirilenko will miss the team's game against the Timberwolves on Wednesday night, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.

Kirilenko injured his hip when he was fouled by Dirk Nowitzki on Monday night, but an MRI revealed no structural damage.

Nowitzki was suspended by the league on Wednesday for the foul.

Dirk Suspended One Game

Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks has been suspended one game without pay, and his Flagrant Foul, Penalty One against Andrei Kirilenko of the Utah Jazz has been upgraded to a Flagrant Foul, Penalty  Two, it was announced today by Stu Jackson, NBA Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations.

The incident occurred with 7:04 remaining in the first period of the Mavericks' 116-110 loss to the Jazz on Monday, March 3 at EnergySolutions Arena.

T-Mac Criticizes Nowitzki's Flagrant Foul

Tracy McGrady said that he believes that Dirk Nowitzki should be suspended by the league for the flagrant foul on Utah's Andrei Kirilenko on Monday, the Houston Chronicle is reporting.

"He should be (suspended)," McGrady said. "That was a pretty hard foul. Not only that, to slam a guy to the ground like that, it was a hard foul. It should have been a flagrant-2."

The Mavericks take on McGrady and the Rockets on Thursday.

Jamal Crawford had 20 points and 6 assists for New York, who hit just 40% of their shots. New Orleans earned a ten-point edge in the final period, allowing them to cruise to a relatively easy road victory.

Carlos Boozer posted 28 points and 7 rebounds and Mehmet Okur added 20 points and 12 boards for the Jazz, who shot 53% on the night and took good care of the basketball. Josh Howard led with 25 points and Dirk Nowitzki added 23 points and 7 rebounds for Dallas, who hit half of their shots but were outrebounded slightly by Utah.

Kirilenko's Hip X-Rays Come Back Negative

Utah Jazz forward Andrei Kirilenko left tonight?s game at the 7:04 mark of the first quarter of the Jazz?s 116-110 win over Dallas at EnergySolutions Arena.  He was injured during a fall following a flagrant foul by the Mavericks? Dirk Nowitzki.  Initial x-rays taken on Kirilenko?s right hip at the arena were inconclusive and he was transported to a local hospital for further x-rays.  

X-rays at the hospital were negative, and although he returned to the arena, he did not return to the game.  Kirilenko has a sprained right hip and will be re-evaluated tomorrow.  He is listed as day-to-day.
