Trae Young: I'm Excited For the Future With Quin Snyder

Apr 28, 2023 11:50 AM

Before the play-in, there were rumors that Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks could evaluate their future together with the possibility of a trade.

But the Hawks extended their first round series against the Boston Celtics to six games, which could make their offseason less tumultuous. The Hawks hired Quin Snyder at the All-Star break and all sides got to evaluate the situation on the floor rather than conceptually.

“I mean, Quin (Snyder) is the future,” Young said. “I believe with him here this city is going to win a championship.”

Young was asked to describe Snyder's late-season arrival.

“It’s kind of tough when you get in the position (during) the year and you want to put in your stuff but everybody’s already played 40, 50 games, or however many we’ve played at that point,” Young said. “I think he’s going to be great for us and I’m excited for the future with him.”

NBA To Investigate Dejounte Murray's Post-Game Actions Towards Official

Apr 24, 2023 12:51 AM

The NBA is investigating Dejounte Murray's actions towards an official following the Atlanta Hawks' 129-121 loss at home to the Boston Celtics in Game 4, sources told Tim Bontemps of ESPN.

Murray appeared to make contact with referee Gediminas Petraitis before leaving the court at the end of the game.

The team did not make Murray available for a post-game interview.

The league usually makes a decision on any disciplinary action before the next game in the series.

Down 3-1 in the series, the Hawks play the Celtics on Tuesday night.

Dejounte Murray: Great Things Take Time

Apr 22, 2023 8:38 AM

Trae Young and Dejounte Murray combined for 57 points in the Atlanta Hawks' Game 3 win over the Boston Celtics.

Young and Murray are in their first season together. Murray compared his partnership with Young to what he has witnessed from Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

"I don't want to talk about Boston too much, but I look at Jayson and Jaylen a lot," Murray said. "Two guys who were going through it a lot, just not working out. And just to get to where they're at, the level they're at -- obviously last year going to the Finals and this year being at the top of the East -- so great things don't happen overnight.

"Great things take time and me and [Young] both want to learn the game and work at the game at the same time."

"First of all, [it was] kind of figuring out what they were thinking together playing off each other," Snyder said. "At one point, I was like, I should just be quiet. Usually when that's happening, as a coach, if you feel that and you respect those guys and they are communicating like that and if they're on the same page, people will play off of them. That's what happened us.

"That's when we're going to be playing our best basketball."

Young believed it was a step in the right direction with Murray.

"You don't want to live in the moment too much. I mean, we won a game in the playoffs, it's big," Young said. "But we've had some really good games together. I don't consider this our best game together. It's definitely one of them, but it came at the right time and we needed it."

Hawks Have 'Continued Question Marks' On Trae Young, Could Discuss Future With Rich Paul In Offseason

Apr 11, 2023 3:05 PM

The future of Trae Young with the Atlanta Hawks has become a topic of intrigue around the league following a report from The Ringer that there is a belief their front office has the "green light" to trade him should that be their preferred course of action.

Young responded to the report on Tuesday and there was additional reporting from Shams Charania.

While Young and Quin Snyder "both have genuine respect for each other," the team appears to be in wait and see mode.

"I'm told the Hawks are continuing to closely monitor Trae Young's day-to-day commitments and his habits on a day-to-day basis on the floor and off the floor," said Charania. "What Trae Young is willing to do to be a leader, what it takes to be a leader. Clearly, there's been continued question marks, I think, around that organization as far as Trae Young. An unbelievable player on the floor...

"The one thing that is of note, his agent is Rich Paul, and that's someone that we know the expectation is going to be there will be conversations, I think, between Trae Young's camp and the Hawks and their ownership as far as what direction the Hawks are going to in the future as far as with Trae Young."

Trae Young On Trade Rumors: It Could Be False, Could Be True, You Never Know

Apr 11, 2023 1:27 PM

Trae Young responded to a report from The Ringer that indicated the front office of the Atlanta Hawks have the authority to trade anyone on their roster this offseason, even Trae Young.

Young said nobody within the Hawks has told him he could be traded, but “stuff like that comes out all the time.”

“It could be false, could be true, you never know,” Young said.

Young was also asked if the Hawks' Play-In games felt bigger as they can determine his fate with the franchise.

“It’s hard – you can’t look at it.

“Especially as the player in the moment, you can’t look at what’s gonna come on next year,” Young said. “After the game, if the game doesn’t go your way tonight, what’s gonna happen? Like, you can’t focus on things like that. That messes up your head and then you’re not ready to play so, me, I’m not worried about that. I’m gonna let my game play. After the season, whatever happens, happens. I mean, I’m focused on the next task at hand. I can’t worry about the outside noise or whatever fake stories come out, or what’s true, whatever.”

Quin Snyder Believed To Have Final Say On Hawks' Personnel Decisions

Apr 10, 2023 12:02 PM

Many high-level decision-makers from opposing teams believe Quin Snyder now has the final say on personnel decisions with the Atlanta Hawks.

Snyder was hired by the Hawks as head coach in February.

Sources say during the months of negotiations leading up to his eventual hire, Snyder demanded and now wields significant influence over personnel decisions.

The Hawks' front office is described as a collaborative effort between Snyder, Landry Fields and Kyle Korver.

Snyder signed a five-year contract with the Hawks and began his tenure during the middle of the season, which is somewhat unusual for a coach of his stature.

Hawks Have 'Green Light' From Ownership To Trade Anyone, Even Trae Young

Apr 10, 2023 11:42 AM

The front office of the Atlanta Hawks has "the green light from ownership to do whatever it wants to with the roster, which includes considering trade opportunities involving All-Star point guard Trae Young," sources tell Kevin O'Connor of The Ringer.

Travis Schlenk exited the front office in December and the decision-makers are now Landry Fields, Kyle Korver and Quin Snyder. While negotiating his contract to become head coach of the Hawks, Snyder demanded and now wields substantial influence over personnel decisions.

Young is on Year 1 of a five-year, $215 million contract extension he signed during the 2021 offseason.

While Young is a talented on-ball player and would raise the floor on offense of any team in the league, he drifts off-ball and is also one of the NBA's biggest liabilities on defense.

The more likely scenario than a Young trade this offseason is that the Hawks retool around him and Dejounte Murray.
