Jayson Tatum Hasn't Thought About Extension Decision Yet

Sep 28, 2020 10:48 AM

The Boston Celtics are expected to offer Jayson Tatum a max contract extension at the start of free agency, but that's not something he's thought about yet.

"That's a tough question to answer," Tatum said. "I haven't even thought about that yet. I was just focused on this season.

"The front office and my agent gotta talk about it. But I'm not thinking about that right now. We just lost a series. Just thinking about the guys in the locker room and the games. That's what I'm thinking about. Stuff like that, going to happen, if it happens, [is] not really my concern. I'm not even thinking about that.

"I'll think about the great season we had, the great players, great job by everyone. It was a helluva year, and I enjoyed it. I appreciate everybody. This was fun. I'm not really thinking about the other stuff right now."

The Celtics took extension talks with Jaylen Brown down to the wire and they eventually agreed to a four-year, $115 million deal

Jayson Tatum Says Celtics Had To 'Relax A Little Bit' During Game 5 Win

Sep 26, 2020 12:26 PM

Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown said that the Boston Celtics were able to relax and play with less anxiety during their 121-108 win over the Miami Heat in game 5.

The Celtics are now down 3-2 in the series.

"Everybody was so anxious, eager to make a play, make something happen. We know what's at stake: We lose and go home.

"But at the same time, we've got to relax a little bit. Take a deep breath. We know how important every possession is, but we've still got to just relax a little bit and play the game, and that was kind of the message at halftime," said Tatum, who finished the game with 31 points and 10 rebounds.

The Celtics scored 41 points in the quarter, including going on a 20-3 run to turn a 60-51 deficit into a 71-63 lead.

Brown added that the Celtics were finally able to settle down in the third.

"What I remember from halftime is Kemba saying, 'We just need to settle down a little bit. We just had to dial in a little bit, and once we did, I felt like we were fine."

Celtics' Draft Room Let Out 'Collective Moan' When Heat Selected Tyler Herro

Sep 24, 2020 2:26 PM

The Boston Celtics had serious interest in drafting Tyler Herro leading up to the 2019 NBA Draft.

Boston owned the 14th pick but the Miami Heat picked Herro at No. 13. The Celtics lost a coin flip to the Heat for the selection and they ended up selecting Romeo Langford at No. 14.

"On NBA draft night last year there was a collective moan among the Boston Celtics brass right about the time the Miami Heat used the No. 13 pick to select Tyler Herro," wrote A. Sherrod Blakely this week.

Herro is averaging 20.5 points, 7.2 rebounds and 5.2 assists through the first four games of the Eastern Conference Finals

Gordon Hayward To Remain In Bubble For Remainder Of Playoffs

Sep 20, 2020 1:41 AM

Gordon Hayward will remain in the Orlando bubble for the remainder of the Boston Celtics' playoff run.

Hayward, who returned to the court in game 3 following an ankle injury that kept him out for over a month, had originally planned to leave the bubble for the birth of his fourth child.

Hayward had left the bubble to rehab his injury.

"Robyn could be having a baby at any point in time, so I think it's probably something that I'll be here and by the time I get back, I might miss the birth if she just goes in and rushes into the hospital. So we discussed it, we prayed about it, and I think it's probably best if I stay here and help our team," said Hayward.

Hayward finished with 6 points and 5 rebounds in 31 minutes in his return.

Brad Stevens Credits Celtics' Aggression For Game 3 Win

Sep 20, 2020 1:36 AM

The Boston Celtics defeated the Miami Heat 117-106 in game 3, outscoring the Heat 60-36 in the paint.

The Celtics are now down 2-1 in the series.

"Our whole team was aggressive. Our whole team played with the right mentality," said Brad Stevens.

Responding to the emotions shown after their game 2 loss, Jaylen Brown said that the team had moved on without any lingering effects.

"There are some great guys in that locker room. A lot of emotion, a lot of passion. But we're a family. We're here for each other at the end of the day. We exemplified that when we came out together. We stayed together during some tough moments. But we didn't hang our head. We kept our will high and persevered to win this game," said Brown.

Brown finished the game with 26 points and 7 rebounds.

Marcus Smart, who reportedly clashed with Brown following the loss, added that he was eager to return to the court for game 3.

"I was so antsy to get and play basketball. I don't think the last two games exemplified what this team was about ... I'm glad to be part of this team and this organization and I'm proud of how we responded."
