Multiple Teams Expected To Pursue Goran Dragic If Bought Out

Jan 31, 2022 3:29 PM

The Dallas Mavericks are expected to receive competition in signing Goran Dragic should he become a free agent after the trade deadline.

Marc Stein writes that "sources say that multiple teams are expected to pursue Dragic."

The Toronto Raptors have expressed confidence that they will be able to trade Dragic by the deadline. Dragic and his $19.4 million expiring contract could be bought out by the team that trade for him.

The Raptors acquired Dragic as part of the Kyle Lowry sign-and-trade with the Miami Heat.

Jalen Brunson Has 'Real Flight Risk' For Mavericks In Offseason

Jan 31, 2022 10:04 AM

Jalen Brunson will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason and retaining him may prove difficult for the Dallas Mavericks.

"The Brunson flight risk is real, sources say," writes Zach Lowe. "The Mavs have no cap space to replace them."

Brunson is averaging 15.7 points, 3.8 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game this season for the Mavericks. The Mavericks turned around their season after moving Brunson into the starting five.

The Mavericks also have the unrestricted free agency of Dorian Finney-Smith to contend with.

Kristaps Porzingis Leaves Game With Knee Soreness; Won't Play Sunday

Jan 30, 2022 9:05 AM

Kristaps Porzingis' injury-ridden season continued this weekend. Porzingis left the Dallas Mavericks win over the Indiana Pacers on Saturday in the first half due to knee soreness. After the game, it was reported that he will not travel for the Mavs game at the Orlando Magic on Sunday.

Porzingis has missed 16 of the Mavericks first 50 games. The persistent knee soreness has kept the big man from finding his rhythm in Dallas' offense. He's shooting a career-low 28.3% from behind the arc and is averaging 19.2 points per game.

Kristaps Porzingis of the Dallas Mavericks has been fined $15,000 for kicking the game ball into the stands. Porzingis was given a technical foul and ejected from the game in the fourth quarter of the Mavs 130-92 loss to the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday.

Knicks Want To Acquire Jalen Brunson

Jan 16, 2022 9:42 AM

After completing a trade for Cam Reddish of the Atlanta Hawks, the New York Knicks are hoping for more. The next target on the Knicks list is Jalen Brunson of the Dallas Mavericks.

Brunson's father, Rick, was one of Leon Rose's first clients when he was starting out as a sports agent. Rose now runs the Knicks front office. In the past, New York has engaged Dallas on trade talks involving Brunson.

Brunson is eligible to sign a contract extension with the Mavs. Or Brunson could opt for unrestricted free agency, and a potentially bigger payday this summer.

New York has reportedly also had discussions about acquiring Jerami Grant of the Detroit Pistons and Myles Turner of the Indiana Pacers.

Mavericks To Waive Willie Cauley-Stein, Sign Marquese Chriss

Jan 15, 2022 5:14 PM

The Dallas Mavericks are planning to waive center Willie Cauley-Stein. This move will open the roster spot necessary for Dallas to keep Marquese Chriss.

Cauley-Stein is on an expiring deal of $4.1 million. Dallas will eat that amount in dead money on their cap, unless Cauley-Stein is claimed off waivers.

This season, Cauley-Stein has played in just 18 games. He hasn't appeared in a contest for Dallas since November 27. Since that point, Cauley-Stein has been out due to personal reasons.

The Mavericks have signed Chriss to three 10-day hardship contracts. Now that Dallas no longer has any players in the health and safety protocols, they risked losing Chriss upon completion of his third 10-day deal.

The Mavs will sign Chriss to a prorated two-year, veteran minimum contract. Chriss will make approximately $3 million over the two seasons.

Marquese Chriss To Remain On Mavs Roster But Will Be Inactive

Jan 15, 2022 2:05 PM

Kristaps Porzingis is out of the health and safety protocols and ready to return for the Dallas Mavericks. That means the Mavs no longer have room on their active roster for Marquese Chriss.

Under tweaked roster rules due to COVID, the Mavs can keep Chriss through the duration of his 10-Day hardship contract. However, Chriss must be inactive for games. If Dallas loses another player to the protocols, then Chriss can be made active for games.

The Mavericks would like to keep Chriss beyond his 10-Day deal, but do not have an open roster spot. In 12 games with Dallas, Chriss has averaged 6.8 points and 3.9 rebounds in 11.8 minutes per contest.

Mavericks Signing Theo Pinson To Two-Way Contract

Jan 8, 2022 4:15 PM

The Dallas Mavericks are signing wing Theo Pinson to a Two-Way contract. Pinson is completing a second 10-day hardship contract with Dallas in the coming days.

While with the Mavs, Pinson has played in 10 games. He's averaged 2.5 points per game. Pinson has previously been with the Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks on Two-Way deals.

Dallas opened a Two-Way spot when they waived Eugene Omoruyi. Omoruyi suffered a right big toe injury in mid-December. With Omoruyi expected to be out for four-to-six months following surgery, the Mavs waived him to open the roster spot.
