Could Clippers Trade Camby At Deadline?

Nov 26, 2008 3:47 PM

With the Clippers off to a 2-12 start, center Marcus Camby could become a valuable trade asset around February's trading deadline.

Camby's name even surfaced last week when the Clippers agreed to a four-player deal with the Knicks.

"After the trade went down, I talked with (coach) Mike (Dunleavy), and he said they want me here," Camby said Tuesday. "I still understand the nature of the business. I know, around trade deadline time, probably a lot of contenders will try to look to add me to their team."

Knicks Finalize Randolph Trade With Clips

Nov 25, 2008 5:21 PM

The New York Knicks have finally signed off on the trade which will send Zach Randolph and Mardy Collins to the L.A. Clippers for Tim Thomas and Cuttino Mobley, J.A. Adande from ESPN.com is reporting.

The Knicks had been delaying signing off on the deal pending further tests on Mobley's heart, but now appear to be satisfied that it will not be an issue.

Thomas was expected to be in uniform Tuesday against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Knicks, though, did not expect Mobley to play.

Knicks Finalize Trade

Nov 25, 2008 5:05 PM

The trade sending Zach Randolph and Mardy Collins to the Clippers for Cuttino Mobley and Tim Thomas is now final.

There was a last-minute concern about the physical health of Cuttino Mobley that jeopardized completion of the deal.

But the Knicks have now signed off on the trade and Mobley and Thomas will be in uniform on Tuesday when the Knicks host LeBron James and the Cavaliers at Madison Square Garden.

The trade gives the Clippers the inside scoring threat the team has sought since losing Elton Brand in free-agency.

The deal gives the Knicks sizable salary cap room, perhaps enough for two maximum contract slots, for the summer of 2010 when several NBA stars will be available on the free-agent market.

Mobley Practices With Knicks

Nov 25, 2008 4:21 PM

Al Harrington, Tim Thomas and, most importantly, Cuttino Mobley are practicing with the Knicks on Tuesday.

Mobley did not pass his physical on Monday, which put the Zach Randolph for Mobley and Thomas trade in jeopardy.

Donnie Walsh has until 6:30 on Tuesday to sign off on the trade.

D'Antoni Optimistic About Mobley's Health

Nov 25, 2008 12:04 PM

In his blog, Frank Isola writes that "Mike D'Antoni remains optimistic that Cuttino Mobley will receive a clean bill of health from doctors today and that Mobley and Tim Thomas will be available for tonight's game against Cleveland."

The Knicks have until Tuesday afternoon to decide whether to finalize or rescind the trade sending Zach Randolph and Mardy Collins to the Clippers.

The trade would be undone and the players would return to their original teams if the Knicks decided to rescind the deal based on the results of Mobley's physical.  But this appears to be an unlikely scenario at this time.

Knicks Could Ask For Additional Compensation

Nov 25, 2008 5:20 AM

While it is doubtful that New York would veto the deal with the Clippers which landed them Cuttino Mobley and Tim Thomas in exchange for Zach Randolph and Mardy Collins, it may be possible that the Knicks are angling for additional compensation to sign off on the trade, the New York Daily News is reporting.

A pre-existing heart condition in Mobley, found by the Houston Rockets many years ago that has not affected the guard either on or off the court, has delayed New York signing off on the trade, which would make things official.

Originally the Knicks tried for Marcus Camby and then a first round selection before dropping both and accepting Thomas and Mobley.  However, with questions surrounding Mobley's health, it is possible (albeit speculative) that New York may ask for something additional to take on the risk.

"All I know is, we sent two guys there who were playing for us with no (physical) issues," said Clippers GM and coach Mike Dunleavy. "So I don't think it's going to be anything that's going to hold the deal up. But they have until (today) to either say 'yea' or 'nay' on the trade. It has to be by (today). That's the deadline."

Kaman To Bobcats For J-Rich?

Nov 25, 2008 5:07 AM

The L.A. Clippers would like to get the Zach Randolph deal signed and sealed so they can start tinkering with their lineup.

The deal, which saw Randolph and Mardy Collins arrive from New York in exchange for Tim Thomas and Cuttino Mobley, has been delayed due to the Knicks having concerns about Mobley's heart.

Should the trade go through, according to J.A. Adande from ESPN.com, one source said the Clippers are talking to the Charlotte Bobcats about a package that would send Kaman to Charlotte for Jason Richardson. However, another Clippers' source said, "Kaman's not out there."

Mobley Fails Physical; Knicks Have Yet To Sign Off

Nov 25, 2008 12:20 AM

Cuttino Mobley has failed the physical administered after he and Tim Thomas were traded to New York in exchange for Zach Randolph and Mardy Collins.

The delay was earlier described as a "paperwork" matter but it was revealed that the Knicks were investigating concerns about the condition of Mobley's heart.

Mobley will meet with another doctor on Tuesday.

The Knicks are not expected to void the deal.  A team may waive the requirement that a player pass his physical to complete a trade.

Zach Randolph and Mardy Collins were forced to sit out Monday's game waiting for the trade to become final.

Paperwork Delays Randolph Debut

Nov 24, 2008 7:00 PM

Zach Randolph and Mardy Collins will not be available for the Clippers' game on Monday night because of a delay in processing medical paperwork.  All four players involved in the trade must pass physicals before they are cleared to play for their new teams.

The Clippers told the media that the team expects this to be resolved by Tuesday morning.

Cuttino Mobley and Tim Thomas did not practice for the Knicks on Monday.

Randolph Throws Parting Shot At Marbury

Nov 23, 2008 5:37 AM

Zach Randolph may now be an L.A. Clipper, and while he did not have any bad words for his former team, he did have some words for one of his former teammates, the New York Daily News is reporting.

"Playing with a great point guard like (Davis), it's just going to be great. He's going to be the best point guard I ever played with."

When reminded that he played with Marbury last season, Randolph said simply, "Baron's Baron."
