Knicks Agree With Anthony Not To Discuss Contract During Season

Oct 31, 2013 1:35 AM

The New York Knicks agreed with Carmelo Anthony about not discussing the forward's contract situation during the season.

“Carmelo and I, the first day of training camp, we both agreed we wouldn’t have any more conversations about his ability to opt out or us negotiating an extension,’’ Steve Mills said. “I’ll stick to what I had agreed to and not talk about his contract status.’’

Mills was hired partly to ensure Anthony will stay beyond this season.

Mills has a strong relationship with CAA, which represents Anthony.

Andrea Bargnani's Slow Start Leads To Boos In Knicks' Debut

Oct 31, 2013 1:29 AM

Andrea Bargnani heard some boos in his home debut with the New York Knicks on Wednesday night.

Bargnani finished the Knicks' season opening win six points and shooting 3-for-9 in 17 minutes of play.

Bargnani's teammates believe the former No. 1 overall pick will get adjusted to the environment at Madison Square Garden and perform well.

"This is New York. It's the Garden. And it's the show," center Tyson Chandler said. "Once he gets past all of that he'll be fine. All of his teammates love him and we think he's going to be the key. He's going to be huge for us."

Carmelo Will Try To Recruit Free Agents To Knicks

Oct 29, 2013 4:38 PM

While Carmelo Anthony could become a free agent and sign elsewhere in the offseason, he spoke on Tuesday about recruiting free agents to come to the New York Knicks.

The Knicks could have significant cap space in 2015 for a free agent class that could include Kevin Love, Rajon Rondo and LaMarcus Aldridge.

Anthony was criticized this week by Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith when he talked about leaving the Knicks.

“I haven’t had a complaint yet in 10, 11 years in the NBA about playing with me,’’ Anthony said. “People would love to come to play in New York. When that comes, we’ll be working on that. I have a big black book, a big Rolodex. People talk about what’s going on with me in the offseason, [that] I should be getting people to come here. I am. I’m trying.’’

Amar'e Doesn't Expect Carmelo's Free Agency To Become Distraction To Knicks

Oct 20, 2013 5:19 PM

Amar'e Stoudemire does not believe the certainty of Carmel Anthony's future with the New York Knicks will be an issue this season.

Anthony can become an unrestricted free agent in the 2014 offseason.

“I dealt with it before,” Stoudemire said. “What I did was I kept it quiet until the actual summer. I think it won’t be a distraction. We understand what we’re trying to do as a team. We’re trying to win a championship. We’re trying to improve on what we built on last year. So it shouldn’t be a distraction for us as players. We should be okay with it.”

Anthony is expected to be pursued by the Los Angeles Lakers.

“We know this league is based upon business decisions, how you feel and how your family feels, and what’s best for your family,” Stoudemire said. “I’m sure he’s well-educated. He knows what it takes, the best opportunity for him and his family. So we’ll see how it goes.”
