Cleanthony Early Shot In Knee During Robbery

Dec 30, 2015 2:09 PM

Cleanthony Early was shot in the knee early Wednesday from an armed robbery crew who stole his jewelry.

The ski-masked assailants also stole the gold caps from his teeth.

Early was targeted shortly after leaving a Queens strip club with his girlfriend around 4:15 a.m.

The couple was taking an Uber cab home from the CityScapes gentleman’s club hours after the Knicks beat the Pistons in Madison Square Garden when three cars appeared and boxed them in.

Sources said Early and his girlfriend were riding in the back of the cab, oblivious to the oncoming threat until the attackers stopped their ride.

Early is in stable condition in the hospital.

Early played about 30 seconds Tuesday.

The New York Knicks have interest in trading for a young scoring guard or a shooter to improve their backcourt.

But the Knicks don't want to make that type of move while impacting their cap flexibility.

The Knicks are projected to have close to $20 million to spend in free agency this offseason.

According to reports, Jamal Crawford, Kevin Martin and Brandon Jennings, among others, might be available via trade.

Kristaps Porzingis Doesn't Believe He's Hit Rookie Wall

Dec 14, 2015 8:07 PM

Kristaps Porzingis has denied recently hitting the rookie wall.

Porzingis has a PER of 12.1 over his past five games.

“I don’t think so,” Porzingis said Monday after the Knicks practiced at their training facility in Greenburgh. “A couple of bad games, it happens. It happens to all of us, not only rookies. I’m just looking forward to the next game and preparing myself as good as I can. I don’t really know what a rookie wall is. So it’s ups and downs. Obviously this is my rookie season.”

Carmelo Anthony doesn't believe these are indicative of a wider issue for Porzingis.

“It’s December,” he said. “It’s 20-something games into the season. I hope (Porzingis isn’t) thinking that he hit a wall just because of a couple of off days. There’s no such thing as a wall.”

Carmelo Anthony Expresses Frustration With Lack Of Calls

Dec 9, 2015 7:01 PM

Carmelo Anthony has been frustrated by the lack of calls he's receiving from referees this season.

"I always get fouled. That's what's frustrating me. You play so hard, work so hard and don't benefit from that," Anthony told reporters after the Knicks' shootaround in Utah on Wednesday. "You look at other guys -- you touch them and look at them wrong and get fouls. It's a frustrating thing for me as a guy who likes to go to the basket, play in the paint. I like to play physical. It's frustrating.

"I'm human. Those frustrations kick in at times, especially when you're down there banging and know you're getting banged on," added Anthony, who received a technical for arguing with a referee over a non-call on Monday. "I don't know what else to do. I don't know how to play another way."

Anthony is attempting 5.7 free throws per game.

Cuban: Mavericks Would Have Traded Up For Porzingis In 'A Heartbeat'

Dec 8, 2015 2:31 PM

Mark Cuban says the Dallas Mavericks would have traded up to select Kristaps Porzingis if possible.

“We would have traded up in a heartbeat to get that kid,’’ Cuban said before the first Porzingis-Nowitzki showdown. “We loved him. Obviously, people are going to compare him to Dirk because that’s what people like to do. When you’re 7-foot-3, those three inches make a difference.

“I’m a Porzingis fan. I’ve got my Russian insults all packaged up to starting screaming at him with my high school Russian. Porzingis is the real deal. He’s got some s–t to him and that’s different.”

Porzingis actually barely speaks Russian as he's fluent in Latvian, English and Spanish.

Celtics Tried To Use Hornets' No. 9 Pick To Trade Up With Knicks To No. 4

Dec 1, 2015 1:49 PM

In last year's draft, the Boston Celtics initially pursued a trade for the Charlotte Hornets' No. 9 pick with the idea of sending it to the Knicks, along with Boston's No. 15 pick to move up to No. 4.

The Celtics were targeting Justise Winslow at No. 4, just as they were at No. 9.

Charlotte refused the pitches from the Celtics and ended up taking Frank Kaminsky, while Kristaps Porzingis went No. 4 overall to the Knicks.

The Miami Heat selected Winslow with the 10th overall pick.

"We listened," Steve Mills says. "But we were never close."
