The Orlando Magic have applied to have the remaining salary of Timofey Mozgov removed from their salary cap under career-ending injury and illness provisions.

Mozgov signed a four-year, $64 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2016.

The Magic waived and stretched Mozgov in July after acquiring him from the Charlotte Hornets.

Orlando is $1.9 million below the hard cap and are therefore carrying only 13 players.

The Orlando Magic waived five players, including Jon Davis, Isaac Humphries, DaQuan Jeffries, B.J. Johnson, and Vic Law.

The moves bring the Magic roster down to 15 players, including two players on two-way contracts.

Hassani Gravett was waived by the Orlando Magic.

The former South Carolina point guard signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Magic in August. 

Steve Clifford discussed his excitement of unveiling a lineup featuring Markelle Fultz and DJ Augustin in the same backcourt.

Clifford added that the lineup is made possible due to Fultz's ability to defend bigger guards.

Clifford complimented Fultz's basketball IQ, praising his ability to fit into a team.

"The thing that I most like about him – and you don’t see this with all young players – is that you work on something and they play five-on-five and he takes what you’ve worked on and he implements it into the team. Obviously, he’s a terrific individual player, he has skill and he knows how to play, he has IQ and he knows how to play both ends of the floor ... His IQ translates into good team play, and a lot of that is because of his attitude and the way that he works," added Clifford before the Magic's preseason game against the Spurs.

Markelle Fultz plans to play in the preseason opener of the Orlando Magic on Saturday in San Antonio.

Fultz will participate in Tuesday's opening training camp practice with no restrictions.

The Magic acquired Fultz from the Philadelphia 76ers at the trade deadline.
