Magic Granted Tax Relief On Timofey Mozgov Contract

The Orlando Magic were granted tax relief for the remaining $16.7 million of Timofey Mozgov's contract, league sources told Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The Magic acquired Mozgov in July 2018, though Mozgov never played a game for the team and was waived last summer.

The Magic are now $7.8 million under the tax threshold according to ESPN.

The Orlando Magic expressed interested in trading for DeMar DeRozan, league sources told Kevin O'Connor of The Ringer.

The Magic are "scouring the trade market for scoring help," added O'Connor.

DeRozan has a player option for next season, though The Athletic reported that DeRozan and the Spurs remain far apart on negotiating a contract extension.

Markelle Fultz started his first game at point guard for the Orlando Magic during their 91-87 loss to the Denver Nuggets.

Fultz replaced DJ Augustin, who had previously started in 115 straight games for the team.

Fultz finished with 9 points and 2 assists in 25 minutes.

Steve Clifford said that Fultz's inclusion in the starting lineup gave his side a more balanced approach.

“It gives our lineup more balance. With both the first unit and the second unit, we have a better chance to play better," said Clifford.

Magic Sign Amile Jefferson To Standard NBA Contract

The Orlando Magic have signed Amile Jefferson to a standard NBA contract.

Jefferson was previously on a Two-Way deal with the Magic, which leaves Josh Magette as their only Two-Way player.

Orlando began the seas with 13 players under standard contracts.

“He’s a hard-working, very reliable, dependable player,” Steve Clifford said. “Super smart, super competitive. If he has to play tonight, he’ll play well. We’ll function well with him out there.”
