Phoenix Front Office 'Complements Each Other'

Sep 28, 2010 2:44 AM

Lance Blanks' transition into an unorthodox front office with the Suns, where agent Lon Babby is at the helm, has been a 'seamless' experience.

"We know what lanes we're in," he said. "I learn something new probably every day, personally. We haven't stepped on each other's feet.

"I'm excited about it (the front-office structure) because we get to complement each other because of what we bring and learn from each other. . . . It is a little bit of a unique model. I think some of this goes on already in the NBA. It's just not as clearly defined as ours is, as far as different guys with different skill sets."

Suns Invite Zabian Dowdell To Camp

Sep 15, 2010 7:56 AM

The Suns have invited guard Zabian Dowdell to training camp.

Dowdell was bound for Phoenix's training camp last season until a groin strain sidelined him for three months.

"It was a tough year mentally to fight through that," said Dowdell, who played in Spain and the D-League. "I feel like I'm back to where I was. I feel like I have my burst back."

Dowdell will compete with rookie combo guard Matt Janning for the team's last roster spot.

Suns Unlikely To Give Extension To Dudley

Sep 8, 2010 7:33 AM

Suns forward Jared Dudley is eligible for a contract extension through October, but the team is unlikely to give him a long-term deal.

Phoenix made long-term commitments to Hedo Turkoglu and Josh Childress this summer, meaning they'll likely let Dudley become a restricted free agent next offseason.

"It would be nice," Dudley said of an extension.

"I'm not optimistic. My mindset is to go out and play my last year and go as far as we can. At the end of the year, I know if we win, I'm going to have a good year. I do a pretty good job of keeping healthy. My goal is to come out and have a better year than last year and have the team better. When a team is successful, everybody usually does pretty well. Look at Channing (Frye). $30 million. Tell him (to) let me get a little bit of that."

Amar'e Works Out In Phoenix

Sep 2, 2010 8:05 AM

Amar'e Stoudemire worked out informally in Phoenix earlier this week.

Stoudemire, who left the Suns as a free agent, played some pickup basketball as is customary during the NBA's offseason.

He signed a five-year, $99.7 million deal with New York in July.

Suns managing partner Robert Sarver offered him a five-year, $96.6 million contract with $56 million guaranteed.

"It was fair from Robert's standpoint," Stoudemire said. "I understand his concerns, which were injuries and health. There are no hard feelings at all. From a security standpoint for myself and with as much work as I put in on the court, I was after a greater goal. It was a fair offer from his standpoint. We still talk and have a good friendship.

"The greater goal was to have a sense of security. I didn't want a football deal (with some or all of the money non-guaranteed). I want a NBA deal. That's what I ended up getting."
