Report: Blazers Parting Ways With Neil Olshey Considered 'Most Likely Outcome'

Nov 19, 2021 3:20 PM

An investigation by the Portland Trail Blazers into Neil Olshey appears to be in its final stages. SNY reports that "the most likely outcome" is for the Blazers to part ways with Olshey.

Olshey is owed more than $12 million on his current contract, SNY sources say. Olshey's remaining salary could be a sticking point in how the two parties part ways.

The Blazers hired Olshey to run the front office in 2012.

Damian Lillard Calls NBA Officiating 'Unacceptable'

Nov 10, 2021 9:35 AM

Following the Portland Trail Blazers loss at the LA Clippers, Damian Lillard sounded off on NBA officiating. Lillard attempted just one free throw in the game, despite feeling he was fouled multiple times.

"The way the game is being officiated is unacceptable. I don't want to go too deep into it so they make a big deal out of it, but the explanations that's getting missed, I mean, come on," Lillard said. "I felt like coming in, the rule change wouldn't affect me, because I don't do the trick the referees. I don't do the trick plays. It's just unacceptable."

Lillard is one of several players, including James Harden, Trae Young and Jayson Tatum, who have had issues with the way the NBA is enforcing foul-drawing this season. In attempt to crack down on players parading to the free throw line, the NBA changed the way they would call fouls where the offensive player initiates contact.

For Lillard, these changes, in part, have resulted in him averaging 19.3 points per game. That's the lowest mark since Lillard's rookie season. The Blazers star is also shooting a career-worst 36.5% overall and 25.5% on three-pointers. In addition, Lillard is averaging the fewest free throw attempts of his career at 3.2 freebies per game.

Danny Ainge Could Be Next Blazers GM If Neil Olshey Is Fired

Nov 10, 2021 10:43 PM

The Portland Trail Blazers are in the midst of an investigation into workplace misconduct on the part of General Manager Neil Olshey. While that investigation is still in its early days, there is speculation it could result in Olshey being fired.

If Portland does move on from Olshey, there is an expectation that former Boston Celtics President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge could be a target to run the team's basketball operations, according to Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated. Ainge retired from Boston's front office at the end of the 2021 season and has remained a consultant to Brad Stevens and the Celtics.

At this point, there is no indication that Ainge would be interested in running the Blazers front office.

Ainge is from Oregon, having grown up in Eugene. Ainge was a three-sport star at North Eugene High School. Ainge garnered first-team All-American honors in football, basketball and baseball.

Damian Lillard Says Job Remains Unchanged In Light Of Neil Olshey Allegations

Nov 7, 2021 9:52 PM

Damian Lillard said his duty with the Portland Trail Blazers will remain the same while the franchise opens an investigation into president of basketball operations Neil Olshey.

Olshey is under investigation for workplace misconduct.

"The games continue. Our jobs continue. And that's all we can do," Lillard said Saturday after scoring a game-high 25 points in a 105-90 win over the Los Angeles Lakers. "That's what we can control is doing our job and being prepared, and me being here for 10 years now and being a big part of this organization and this team, it's my job to continue to do that the way that I have. And that's what I can control and that's what I'll do."

Lillard has been with the Blazers since 2012, just a few weeks after Olshey was hired to run the front office.

"I think the best way to lead is to focus on leading the team," Lillard said. "We play basketball, and my job is to be the point guard and the captain of this team. And to continue to do that."
