James Borrego Gets 2nd Interview With Rockets

May 24, 2016 8:50 PM

James Borrego has moved from Monday's interview with Daryl Morey to a follow-up meeting with owner Leslie Alexander.

Borrego is currently an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs after previously serving as an assistant coach with the New Orleans Pelicans and Orlando Magic. Borrego was briefly interim head coach of the Magic.

The Houston Rockets had seemingly narrowed their search to Mike D'Antoni and Stephen Silas, but they're again widening it.

Kevin McHale was fired in November and J.B. Bickerstaff wasn't retained after serving as interim head coach.

May 18, 2016 6:06 PM

Manu Ginobili will take his time in deciding his future and whether or not he will continue his NBA career.

Ginobili plans on meeting with Gregg Popovich, Tim Duncan and others to discuss where things stand.

"I guess in a couple of weeks I'll think more about my future," wrote Ginobili at La Nacion. "Surely, I will sit down with Pop, Tim and some of my colleagues to chat. Then, we will see what the objectives are and whether something will change or not. It is still early to see it.

"It will not depend on my determination of what my colleagues do, or anything. But I want to know what the plan is."

Ginobili is also looking forward to participating in the Olympics with Argentina.

Spurs To Pursue Mike Conley In Free Agency

May 13, 2016 10:15 AM

The San Antonio Spurs plan on pursuing Mike Conley in free agency.

Conley will be a free agent for the first time in his career after being drafted in 2007 by the Memphis Grizzlies.

Conley is widely considered one of the NBA's best players to never play in an All-Star Game.

Conley is several years younger than Tony Parker, who remains signed with the team through the 17-18 season.

Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili Not Ready To Make Decision On Future

May 13, 2016 10:11 AM

Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili have yet to make a decision about whether they will continue their careers next season or retire.

The San Antonio Spurs were eliminated in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals by the Oklahoma City Thunder.

"I'll get to that after I get out of here and figure out life. That's it," said Duncan.

Ginobili said he plans to "take my time as always."

"Of course, it's been an amazing run," said Ginobili. "We all enjoy playing with each other. I'm so proud of having played with those guys for so many years and winning so many games, and even playing with the new guys. If there's a reason why you always want to come back and keep being part of this, [it's] because of the amazing chemistry, the good times and the good people that you play with and spend time with. It's not always about winning a game or winning a championship. But you learn from losses, and it's important to enjoy every day. Being a part of this team, I'm very proud of it, even if sometimes it doesn't go our way."

Spurs Preparing Offseason Pursuit Of Kevin Durant

May 6, 2016 11:37 AM

The San Antonio Spurs are planning on pursuing Kevin Durant in free agency this offseason.

With the salary cap rising, teams like the Spurs and Golden State Warriors will have more space than they would in a normal season.

The Spurs would likely need to part with Danny Green or Tony Parker to create enough space to sign Durant.

San Antonio was able to create space last offseason for LaMarcus Aldridge and their pursuit of big free agents dates back to Jason Kidd in 2003 even after Parker's breakout season.

Danny Leroux of RealGM and The Sporting News recently broke down the cap mechanics of how the Spurs can sign Durant without losing too much of their supporting cast.

NBA Lists Five Incorrect Non-Calls From Final Thunder-Spurs Play

May 3, 2016 4:57 PM

The NBA listed five incorrect non-calls from the final 13.5 seconds of Game 2 of the Western Conference Semifinals between the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs.

Manu Ginobili should have been whistled for delay of game for stepping on the sideline during the game's final inbounds play, and Dion Waiters should have been called for an offensive foul for crossing the out-of-bounds plane and hitting Ginobili with his elbow, the league said Tuesday in its last-two-minutes report.

Foul calls were then missed on Patty Mills and Kawhi Leonard.

After the Spurs stole the inbounds pass and made a final effort to hit a winning shot, a shooting foul should have been called on Serge Ibaka for grabbing and holding the jersey of LaMarcus Aldridge with 2.6 seconds left.

The Thunder won the game 98-97.
