Longtime Friend: Kevin Durant's Decision '90 Percent Made'

Jun 30, 2016 3:40 PM

Kevin Durant is widely expected to re-sign with the Oklahoma City Thunder for at least one more season.

Durant will meet with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Miami Heat, Golden State Warriors, Boston Celtics and San Antonio Spurs.

“His decision is 90 percent made. It would take an amazing sales pitch to change it,” said one of Durant’s longtime friends.

Another Durant colleague said, “It’s going to take some sweet-talking to get him to pass up all the money he can get by staying in OKC.”

Cavs, Rockets, Heat, Warriors, Spurs Interested In Timofey Mozgov

Jun 30, 2016 1:10 PM

The Cleveland Cavaliers, Houston Rockets, Miami Heat, Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs are among the teams interested in signing Mozgov.

Mozgov had an excellent 14-15 season after coming over to the Cavaliers in a trade from the Denver Nuggets, but he struggled to get all the way healthy in 15-16 after offseason knee surgery.

The Cavs primarily used Tristan Thompson, Kevin Love and Channing Frye at the center spot in the playoffs.

Spurs Won't Waive Boris Diaw

Jun 30, 2016 12:22 PM

The San Antonio Spurs will not waive Boris Diaw, guaranteeing his $7 million salary for the 16-17 season.

The Spurs can trade Diaw if they need to free up cap space to sign a free agent.

Diaw is 34 and his minutes per game dropped from 24.5 per game to 18.2 this season following the additions of LaMarcus Aldridge and David West.

Diaw had a PER of 14.0 which was similar to his mark in preivous seasons since joining the Spurs in 2012.

Tim Duncan Exercises Player Option With Spurs

Jun 29, 2016 1:15 AM

Tim Duncan has exercised his $5.6 million player option for the 16-17 season with the San Antonio Spurs.

Duncan's future remains uncertain, however, as he considers retirement. Duncan remained one of the NBA's best defensive players, helping Kawhi Leonard anchor a historically great defense.

The Spurs were eliminated in the second round against the Thunder.

The Spurs are allowing Duncan to make a decision on his own timetable, but there’s no question that this offseason is the most seriously he’s considered retirement.

Some Teams View Kevin Durant Meetings As Chance To Lay 2017 Groundwork

Jun 27, 2016 11:17 AM

Kevin Durant is expected to ultimately re-sign with the Oklahoma City Thunder on a one-plus-one contract and become a free agent again in 2017.

Teams meeting with Durant feel like they're laying the groundwork for his 2017 offseason as they anticipate that probable outcome.

The Thunder nearly reached The Finals in 2016 and the ability for Durant to re-sign on a short-term deal and then take a longer view when Russell Westbrook is also a free agent is appealing.

Even if Durant left the Thunder in free agency this summer, he would look for a one-plus-one contract in order to maximize his salary.

Celtics, Clippers, Heat, Warriors, Spurs, Thunder Get Meetings With Kevin Durant

Jun 25, 2016 11:16 AM

Represenatives of Kevin Durant at Roc Nation are working to solidify invitations with the Boston Celtics, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs and the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Durant is expected to take the meetings in New York but teams are still awaiting a decision on the final location.

The Thunder remain the frontrunners to re-sign Durant on a one-plus-one contract, according to sources.

But sources say the Warriors, more than than any other rival team, have Durant's attention.

The Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets and Washington Wizards could still capture meetings with Durant but are currently outside the process.

Durant will leave for a publicity tour in the Far East on July 9th and a decision is expected before he departs.

Thunder, Warriors, Spurs Granted Meetings With Kevin Durant

Jun 24, 2016 11:48 PM

The Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City are the first three teams to be granted recruiting meetings with Kevin Durant when free agency begins at midnight EST on July 1st.

The list of teams that get to meet with Durant directly will grow as free agency approaches.

Contingents from the Warriors and Spurs are planning to fly to an undisclosed location once free agency starts to meet with Durant. Agent Rich Kleiman and selected family members and friends will be included in the meetings.

Durant will be a free agent for the first time in his career.

The Thunder have been considered the favorites to re-sign Durant on a one-plus-one contract.

After missing large portions of the 14-15 season with multiple foot surgeries, Durant returned to form in 15-16 and led the Thunder to within one win from their first Finals appearance since 2012.

The Miami Heat, Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Clippers, New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers also hope to meet with Durant.
