Boozer Done In Utah?

Mar 30, 2005 7:40 PM

Carlos Boozer will see the end of a frustrating first season in Utah from the training room, as he will miss the rest of the season while he recovers from a foot injury suffered in February.

He has been ordered by his doctor to wear a boot over his right foot for at least three more weeks. Trainer Gary Briggs said Tuesday that Boozer's condition has improved and surgery has been ruled out for now.

Boozer's agent, Rob Pelinka, said his client is encouraged his foot is healing but ``devastated'' about not playing in Utah's final dozen games this season.

Boozer, averaging a team-high 17.8 points and 9.0 rebounds, sprained his foot at Phoenix on Feb. 14. He spent his first two seasons with Cleveland and signed a $68 million deal with the Jazz last summer.

Sloan Passes Auerbach On Career Win List

Mar 27, 2005 4:58 AM

Jerry Sloan passed Red Auerbach for sixth place on the career victory list with win No. 939 when the Jazz beat the Milwaukee Bucks 94-89.

``Passing Red Auerbach is kind of silly because I don't feel like I've passed him. It's not important to me,'' Sloan said. ``He's a great coach that's had great success with great teams.''

The loss dropped the Bucks to a perfect 0-15 against Western Conference opponents on the road this season.

Kris Humphries had a career-high 17 points for the Jazz, Gordon Giricek had 13 and Matt Harpring 12, while Raja Bell led all Jazz scorers with 23 points.

Kirilenko Out For The Season After Breaking Left Wrist

Mar 24, 2005 11:06 PM

In a season full of injuries, Utah forward Andrei Kirilenko broke his left wrist Thursday night in a collision with Washington's Kwame Brown, effectively ending his season.

Kirilenko, Utah's leading active scorer at 16 points per game, drove to the basket and crashed into Brown just 3:02 into the game. Kirilenko's feet went out from under him and he put his hands down to break his fall, landing hard on his tailbone and left wrist.

Kirilenko remained on his stomach for several minutes before going to the locker room, holding his left wrist and in obvious pain. The Jazz announced early in the second quarter that the wrist was broken and Kirilenko, an All-Star last season, was done for the season.

Kirilenko missed 26 games after spraining his right knee Nov. 30 against San Antonio. He also missed a game Feb. 15 with a sprained right ankle.

Jazz Sign Veteran Point Guard Livingston For The Season's Remainder

Mar 24, 2005 12:52 PM

After joining the Jazz via Sioux Falls of the CBA on a 10-day contract, the Utah Jazz formerly signed 9-year veteran Randy Livingston for the rest of the season.

"It's a blessing for me to still be playing, with all the knee injuries I've been through," said Livingston, a nine-season NBA vet and former Louisiana prep phenom who has lived a journeyman's existence since sustaining major injuries while playing for LSU.

"But it's also rewarding," Livingston added, "to have a (coaching) staff and an organization . . . that values basketball players more than if you can run fast or jump the highest."

Sloan Ties Auerbach, Surgery Appears More Likely For Boozer

Mar 23, 2005 5:19 AM

The Jazz broke a nine-game losing streak on Tuesday, finally giving Jerry Sloan his 938th career win, which ties him with Red Auerbach.

"I'm embarrassed to even have my name mentioned with his," the Jazz coach said, "because what he has on his resume is certainly greater than anything I've ever done in this league."

Carlos Boozer's strained right foot still hasn't healed and it is appearing more likely that he will undergo surgery.

"It's A-B-C-D," Jazz basketball operations senior vice president Kevin O'Connor said Tuesday night. " 'A' is if he comes out of the (walking) boot and he's still having pain, then (the possibility of surgery) is a discussion we have."

Arenas Scores All 22 Of His Points In 2nd Half

Mar 20, 2005 12:05 AM

Gilbert Arenas waited for the 2nd half to score and score he did, finishing with 22 points in a 96-95 win over the Jazz.  The game was one of the most physical of the year, with 50 personal fouls, five technicals and one ejection.

``It was physical. Refs were going both ways with it,'' Arenas said. ``At any point, they could have just kicked anybody out. ... Players were giving each other cheap shots. We've seen it on the film that they're a very physical team. We had to come out from the beginning and be physical, too.''

``It was tough,'' said Washington's Larry Hughes, who scored 21 points. ``We didn't know what was a foul, what wasn't a foul, what was a good play, what wasn't a bad play. It was just one of the games where you had to tough it out and hope that things work out in your favor at the end.''

Sloan Shuffles Lineup; Does Not Prevent 8th Straight Loss

Mar 19, 2005 5:18 AM

In an effort to shake things up and turn around their dismal season, Jazz coach Jerry Sloan changed up the starting lineup.  The result?  A 94-80 loss coming at the hands of the New Jersey Nets.

Andrei Kirilenko did a pretty good job defending Vince Carter when he was in, when Kirilenko was on the bench, Vince was able to do as he pleased.

"When I got back in the game, it was like 20 points," Kirilenko shrugged. "I can [only] talk for myself - I'm just trying to come every night and try to do good job defensively, I think I did good job on Vince Carter tonight. . . .

The Jazz have now lost 8 straight games.
